Need help with the dining area in my kitchen
Comments (44)What a beautiful and perfect table you found! Hubba hubba - those legs are just gorgeous. Well done and thanks for calling out to me. As for the chair mix, I think four beige and two merlot would be lovely. I think you like a traditional look, so I'm a bit worried that you won't be happy with it. If the table will normally be smaller with four beige chairs around it and maybe put the two merlot ones on either side of the radiator cover/"console", then definitely do the mix. Mismatched chairs around a dining table are often all different or the same make and model in a multitude of colours or the same colour in different styles. Do a Houzz search and see if you can find your planned mix and if you like the look. If in doubt, get four beige and look at them for a while! You could tie the two chair colours together with little cushions on the chairs - maybe just on the two merlot ones. Both of these are too big, I think, but the colours are good. http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/reasonhome/product/pondicherry-flower-silk-cushion-cover http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/emmalonsdale/product/chit-chat-rectangular-cushion This one might be the right size: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/jennysibthorp/product/lobster-pot-screen-printed-natural-linen-cushion I covet the table already so I can't wait to see him all polished up.......See MoreMy drab dining area needs so much help
Comments (8)Hello Linda, Yes I like both ideas- shopping and cladding from Jonathan and Reclaimed Flooring.. Certainly a way to introduce a warmer element to go with the dining table.. You could have cladding up to dado height and introduce a grey wood if you prefer the grey colour scheme.. A Cour or Jute rug could be nice underfoot too as this is a further texture.. Then on the wall perhaps a large mirror.. It's fantastic when dining and gives a lovely ambience to the room and interesting focus.. Another thing you could do is add something to the rear wall that functions as display.. Even empty as the one below is can look fantastic! This idea can also lend itself beautifully to the idea of a room divider.. Have a think about moving the table slightly under the light fitting and then you could perhaps have a lower pendant.. If you mix textures this will give a lovely cosy feel... The blinds are interesting too and so all these elements could tie in rather nicely.. Add a nice bowl or something to the table perhaps.. It doesn't always have to be a lot to have a big impact! : ))...See MoreRug / Accessories help needed
Comments (52)Thank you. Yes had to use my powers to persuade my partner :D I'm kidding it was quite easy actually. I was looking at that FC rug actually but the size put me off. Looking at your picture I must say I quite like layered rugs. Need to put some masking tape down to see where they could be placed..I'm struggling to imagine it. Or anything else in fact :) We've decided the sofa will stay at the wall for now. It just feels better. I'll order some white hydrangeas..thanks for the tip I'll look at M&S or Bloom does 3 for 2 too. We have an ornate rectangular golden mirror which I want to test above the fire surround before I look for a new one. Not sure about a coffee table. I was going to wait for the armchair to be delivered to help me see if a coffee table is needed..? Will check out the art and cushions. I guess I do need to order a rug(s) or console so we can go from there.....See MoreNeed help with rug!
Comments (15)Thanks to you all for your advice, looks like I'm going for number 3 and definitely in a large size, I'm deciding between 2 sizes, both big enough to go under furniture - one just about a quarter way and the other will be much more under the furniture but there is £300 difference in price and I really like my floor so I'm leaning towards the slightly smaller of the 2. All the rugs are Louis de poortere, it's a Belgian make but they are stocked in a lot of UK shops (online anyway)....See Morecaroline125
