How do we make this door work?
Comments (7)I’m sure some of the pros will advise better than I can but based on what I have seen with some other angles doors the top of the door frame where the point is could be squared off slightly with a wood panel so the actual door has a small flat top instead of a point if that makes sense?...See Morecan we make a kitchen-diner work in this space?
Comments (8)I think you can:- Some pictures would really help too. I've a mind to say demolish the conservatory as it doesn't provide you with any beneficial living space, plus, i'm guessing it doesn't have a glass roof and therefore, zaps the light from the potential kitchen diner. Thus, I got rid of it and slightly amended the room dimensions. The lounge area gets 4m square ( more or less ). It's currently 4.23 wide, and I made it 4m long. The French doors open in to the lounge as you have on your plan. As I had pinched 85cm from your lounge layout, I added it to the kitchen diner. A table and Chairs will not fit in to a gap of only 1.5m wide whatever you do. Therefore, I made that area 2.17m - which is still tight but do'able . Our dining table and chairs seats 8. 3 on each side with one at either end. Even when you pull the chairs out to sit down it fits in a gap of 1.85m. ( I didn't touch your load bearing wall ) This leaves the kitchen area as 2.57m ( the same as it is now ) - If you run the units down either side and put in a small Island down the middle, measuring approx 1.75m long, you get unit space combined of 6.89m. Plenty!! Plus, as you've demolished the conservatory you now get your light back. I think that if you were to approach one of the great concept planners on here. they'd be able to do this professionally for you. Or, you could have the plans checked over by a builder and drawn up yourself of course....See MoreCan you help me make my living room work?
Comments (9)Blue (sofa) and creamy/yellow (walls and to a certain degree carpet) will always fight so something has to give. I think the creamy wall behind the sofa is too light, too sickly and too yellowy. Whilst I'm not particularly keen on the wallpaper, I think the cream walls are throwing it out. If they were fixed, you may be able to keep the carpet, and perhaps add a rug. I don't think painting the walls blue will help either, it won't connect with the wallpaper. If keeping the wallpaper you may want to find a more taupey neutral that blends with the new sofa, old sofa and wallpaper. The curtains are yellowy too. A good plan it to keep to yellows, creams and warm neutrals of go for taupes, greys and blues. Mixing them is very tricky....See MoreHow can we make this house work?

This is a rough sketch about my idea. 2 Options Option 1: - remove the door in the living room and demolish the existing wall between kitchen and living; - new wall in line with garage with double sliding doors; - new open space in living room with a corridor into utility and toilet; - reduce garage and at rear create a toilet and utility room; - rear extension 4mt with flat roof and rooflight, to create kitchen/dining; - new windows at side in kitchen/dining; - bi-fold doors at rear; - first floor side extension above the garage; - bedroom 3 become ,1 part corridor (access to master bedroom) and 1 part en-suite (for master bedroom). - new master bedroom with dressing above garage. Option 2: - new porch at front; - remove the door in the living room and demolish the existing wall between kitchen and living; - new wall in line with garage with double sliding doors; - new open space in living room with a corridor into utility, toilet and guest room/play room; - garage conversion to realize, utility room, shower room and guest room/play room; - rear extension 4mt with vaulted ceiling, to create kitchen/dining; - new windows at side in kitchen/dining; - bi-fold doors at rear; - first floor side extension above the garage; - bedroom 3 become ,1 part corridor (access to master bedroom) and 1 part study; - new master bedroom with en-suite above garage.
