Comments (25)Hello elg684, I like painted rads and you could do yours. Best way is to remove it prime with an all round paint like zinsser bullseye 123 which you can spray for a better finish including inside the rad. Then spray the rad a top coat of your choice. Matching the walls is a good way to blend them especially if they are not a beautiful architectural feature like old Victorian style can be. Of course if you don't want to do that you can find covers that are white stylish if plainer, and easier to paint that a colour of your choice.. :))...See MoreNeed help with colour decisions
Comments (13)Hi Sara. Have you tried using the dulux visualiser app as they have a number of muted teals? I think crown also have a visualiser app although haven't used it. The doors look great stripped and add warmth but I must admit I always like them painted as they would have been however can totally understand the reluctance to paint them once they have been stripped! Will the kitchen be painted at all or the units? Are you also putting a French door into the dining room or is that just future thinking?!...See MoreDado rails or not?
Comments (8)Hi Hutsly, Thank you for giving your opinion which has been very useful. In the 1st, 3rd and 4th pictures, there is a shelf halfway up the stairs. Behind the piece of decorative skirting that forms the side of the shelf was housed a lot of the pipes for the house. I expect that this was a later addition but most of the houses up the street, which are identical, have something similar here. There is a mix of some of the houses in the street having dado rails and others not so we have assumed that they were original to the houses. We are trying to do the house up as sympathetically as possible, hence the refurbished leaded lights on the 2nd floor landing (picture 2). It is just difficult to decide whether today they just look out of place and should therefore be excluded or whether to be true to how the house was originally....See MoreHelp with exterior door decisions......
Comments (10)In my humble opinion there is not much to root this house to its 1915 origins so you have two options. To get a period style door and door furniture then I would choose a colour that helps the door furniture stand out. I prefer garage doors to match but feel that the side gate rarely has to match the house it needs to match the garden. Alternatively you could go modern with the door. If this were my house I think I would have a contemporary front door with grand proportions to suit the house. I would have a similar garage door. Lastly I might consider window boxes rather than shutters as shutters visually widen the window but window boxes lengthen them which would help preserve the symmetry you seem to be trying to achieve....See MoreStage Two Sell LLC
