Hand Painted on Site or Sprayed in the factory ?
Comments (13)Hi all, Some great advise has been given. I agree with the comments above, it depends on the finish you are looking for. If you want a more traditional finish I would paint on site, this gives a lovely hand painted finish with the brush strokes adding to the overall design of the kitchen. If you are looking for a more modern look to your kitchen, the factory finish will give a more flat finish with no brush strokes. Manufactures tend to lacquer the door using a spray to paint the furniture, giving a more uniform finish. Hope this helps, keep us posted on how you get on. Comments (11)Thank you so much for the lovely comments! This kitchen was painted using Tikkurila Feelings colour matched to Little Greene whitening 41. I remove all the doors, drawers & hardware. Then degrease & sand before applying colour matched Otex primer, then Tikkurila primer as an undercoat(also colour matched) followed by a few coats of Tikkurila Feelings. A light sand between coats is important to get a really solid, smooth finish. I highly recommend this paint system for it durability and aesthetic. It is gorgeous. Comments (23)We’ve had our Davonport kitchen for just over a year now and I’d highly recommend using them. The fact that it’s handmade and carries a 25 year guarantee is what sold it to me! Comments (36)Hi Heather I dont think it is a Cooke & Lewis kitchen but we brought a couple of their integrated doors from b & q doors for our new appliances and they look the same. The painter just wiped on Owatrol ESP and left it to dry for a few hours, it says wipe of on the instructions but you shouldnt wipe it of. He painted 2 coats with a leyland mix oil based egg shell paint. We wanted a matt finish as apposed to a shiny finish. We left the inside of the cupboards the same colour. 6 years agoWe went for hand painted once delivered.
We got someone in to do it and they look good. But! They are getting a bit chipped. This is the risk with painted kitchens I guess. The good thing is that I think that we can go over the knocks and it should look OK. Trying to touch up spray painted kitchens would not work.sana299

6 years agoI've got two children under 5 too. So that's one of the reasons it's getting a bit bashed up! The finish of a spray kitchen is like plastic wrapped kitchens so to put a brush to it wouldn't work.
We got a chance to go to the showroom and it you can decide on the finish. We thought there was not point in getting a wood kitchen and then just spraying so it looks plastic.
The quality of classic kitchens was generally good. We had one problematic item, the doors on the larder top. There was some back and forth (we ordered the wrong kind of larder top. This meant we had to get new doors rather than the whole larder top, the doors came back the wrong size a couple of times...), but we got there in the end. Because we got them late I ended up hand painting those doors. So I know these doors can be painted!
Getting someone to paint he kitchen who knows what they're doing is essential. It's tough to do it yourself. The best people to do it are mostly very expensive...whiteleghorn
