Downstairs renovation - need help with layout
Comments (21)The sitting room is a panelled room in lovely condition hence we don't want to open it up completely to the kitchen or use it for WC. It's kind of a bit of a waste of space but it is too nice to tear apart! Re putting laundry upstairs - I thought about this but decided that if I had the laundry upstairs I would still want a mudroom/ cleaning room downstairs so it makes more sense to consolidate them. Plus it's nice to have the access to/ view of garden. Hopefully this isn't a decision I regret :) Minnie - stairs go round a corner so there isn't space underneath unfortunately. Again the hall is panelled so don't want to mess around with it. Love the idea of a window seat in the bay - will definitely see if this could be a possibility! Just got the latest plans through with pantry removed and toilet/ utility separate... I think I will ask the architect to put an alcove into the hollow wall in the lounge for the music. Other than that I am pretty happy with it. Just about to check all the measurements to see if it works with the sofas!! Thanks all for your input much appreciated :)...See MoreIs anyone able to help with new potential downstairs layout/ extension
Comments (8)Never sure about separate playrooms. If your children are young, you’ll want them in the kitchen/open plan space so you can all be together as a family during the day. If they’re a bit older, they could play (games consoles etc) in the front living room. I think your current design might mean you just have a walk way through to your kitchen with no purpose. How about opening up the whole of the back into one big space with plenty of built-in cupboard storage for toys? Kids are little for such a short time really, it seems a shame to ‘lose’ that space. Also can you have windows on that side of your house? If not, potentially the playroom would be dingy. Just my thoughts! H x...See MoreCan anyone help improve the layout of our downstairs??
Comments (16)Put in some good task lighting in the kitchen, dining (over the table) and sitting area in the form of pendants, led spots strategically placed in specific areas a few lamps in the sitting area (on a 5amp switch so centrally controlled and all dimmable to manage the mood 🤗) and a few strategically placed mirrors. The floor colour and wall colour will also impact how light the space feels so perhaps lighter finishes would work....See MoreHelp with downstairs layout/extension? Thank you!
Comments (2)Hi Katie, I'd love to help you mum with redesigning her forever home. While a £30-40k budget may be a bit low to allow for an architect to deliver a full architectural service I can help her get the design right with my sketch design package. You can find out more about that here: https://www.i-architect.co.uk/bpp.html Best wishes with your home redesign!
