How do you protect the brick walls from splashes and stains?

Love the brick walls, but in a kitchen they can quickly get marked with grease, splashes, etc. How have you managed to protect the exposed brick? Is there a product you have used here that's kept the matt finish and beauty of the bricks, whilst protecting them. If so, I'd love to know which one you used. Many thanks

Susangirl, thank you for your understanding. It is not merely that you show some basic human sympathy and decency, though; it is that you have identified the some of the practicalities. I'd like to know what Jan Johnson thinks I should have done instead. I was very well aware of the risk of feathering the owner's nest, but because I was grateful to have any place to stay, as I have said, I worked on the house. And there is also the issue which JJ hads not picked up on, which is that we did not have any choice. The place was essentially unfirnished and in a terrible state. Should we have abandoned any hope of a decent quality of life in case we were finally mistreated? This place was our home. Should we have applied the same approach wherever we went thereafter? What kind of life is that? Not so far from the kind of life people led in the shacks and tied-cottages in pre-war WWII plantations in Louisiana, perhaps, which I'm reading about just now. The comment "Did you think to keep a diary?" is seeking to blame the victims of greed and utter lack of scruple, and indeed conceivably downright fraud. I think about many things, Jan Johnson! A diary does not cut a lot of ice evidentially. What's your point? The kind of fraud which, as the Inland Revenue told me, does not get investigated as often as it should because there is so much of it - I refer to the avoidance of CBT, which is why we were told to leave furniture items behind. So that the house looked occupied. Note too that it was an ex-council house. The owner had bought it from council tenants who had themselves bought it. That's one more affordable property removed from the system.

Hi Amy, Have a look here, it is our splashback and other glassworks catalogues: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lNMo-zjO2Qm1domfNMNmhrBYxmX23d6x/view?usp=sharing We do all of the splashbacks by UV printing method, you might want to learn more about it before buying splashback because if you will be going for printed one, there are many cheap alternatives that i.e. require reprinting in few years. UV Printing lasts for 70+ years. Moreover, by UV you can also do the plain colour splashback that you initially decided for, but it is going to be slightly cheaper. I can have a walk through our workshop with a camera as we have one (60x60cm) black splashback in stock waiting to be posted. #Edit: Toughened and Heat resistant is a must-have feature! I think i would have used Flat varnish - Decorators Varnish, Dead Flat ( click on this link to the product itselft ). It is designed to be used on Wallpaper to protect it and won't give a sheen, which in turn will not detract from the pattern.

upstand or splash back on wall behind kitchen sink?

We had a teeny upstand put on as I was going to put a metallic splashback across the whole of the back run. I ended up just painting it in a kitchen washable paint BUT it’s a nightmare! The tap is powerful and also a hot water tap and it splashes and leave marks on the paint (it is a dark paint so not the easiest to hide marks to be fair) and so I will plan to have some sort of easy wipe upstand put on at least 12” high now. Painted the damn thing about 4 times now, lol.
