We want to change the trees in front of our houses; using the toolset available in the Houzz app, how do I remove the large tree I. Photo2 and replace with the spiral yew in photo1?

Hi bucklet01,

There is no true way to remove the large tree in photo two, but you can add a cropped image of the spiral yew on top of it using the sketch feature in the Houzz app. You can also take an image of the exterior in real life, then add a cropped image of the spiral yew to cover the current tree.

Open the Houzz app and you should see a "Sketch" button to the top right hand corner of the screen, underneath the cart icon and next to a "Camera" button. Click the sketch button and you'll see an option to either take a photo, or to choose a photo you've already taken from your camera library:

Once you have your photo uploaded, it should look like this:

Click the image of the two boxes (the third up from the bottom of the menu) to add another image to your original image.

When you select your second image, you'll get the option to crop it. Once you're happy with the crop you've chosen, click "Crop" in the top right hand corner of the screen. It'll then add the cropped version of the second photo to the original image, like this:

You can still see the old tree behind it, so what we might do would be to first upload a second photo of a blank white box in order to completely cover the old tree, and then upload a third photo of the spiral yew:

Dear Jill, Buying a property is a serious financial commitment. I would not hesitate to get a quote or even several preferably from the local tradesmen. You need to factor in the costs associated with these or any other works you intend to do outside or inside the house. This house is very impressive with lots of character. I love the symmetry of it, entrance, large windows and overall proportion. I would rather restore and preserve the original features than paint over. It might cost more to implement but should pay off in terms of property value. Wishing you very best with this or other home you choose. Victoria

Hi Sharon Laughlin, I would usually like to actually see the space and front window to be able to answer 100% ...but I can tell I have proposed this layout on several similar properties layout packages as it is a very good use of space and the times you use the space actually means it isn't too bad with 'on lookers' or lighting to have it this way round. Choosing the right window dressing can help with any concerns but having a great and usable space inside (where you live) is vital. I would be happy to take a quick look and offer an opinion (free of charge) if you wanted to email me your plan and a picture of the room (gina.everett@createperfect.co.uk). I know it seems like a head ache now.. but it will be worth the additional consideration time in the long run rather than just settling for something because it is the 'norm'. All the best, Gina

I’m not sure extending your the front gains you much. As Tim says you normally can’t build forward of the building line which means your remaining option is to square it off which makes a visually interesting building kinda square unless you build a front gable…. But you then have issues with light to your biggest reception space. What are you trying to achieve? Do you need more space or do you want to make it look different?

Hi Ciara, Thanks for sharing your project, some great suggestions from the Houzz community A few other ideas for you: - Take a look here at Bike-Box Works https://www.pinterest.co.uk/bikebox_london/: whilst they are specialists in designing bike storage solutions, their expertise lends to accommodating mainly fronts of Victorian Semi-Detached homes and providing unique and interesting designs whilst enhancing and celebrating the beauty of the Victorian Architectural splendour. There are lots of alternatives listed to railings-of varying slimline sizes and encouraging like Rinked has suggested 'a living roof' filled with greenery and planters and enabling your storage underneath, and a slimmer version at the front (as slimline as the bricks already placed - or square planters this depth providing a privacy barrier) - Some exterior lighting should include a copper or copper accent, it will really provide some warmth at the front of the home and in addition contrast perfectly with the greenery (or perhaps pops of purple Lavender) you are planning on implementing - Further future plans might include a change of colour with the front door, and the black base of bricks (if changed for a lighter shade will elongate the illusion of the height of the property further) Hope these ideas help, please share with us the final outcomes, happy renovating Warm and best wishes Team SPEAK
