Is it strange to have the dining room at front of house by front door?
Comments (7)Hi Sharon Laughlin, I would usually like to actually see the space and front window to be able to answer 100% ...but I can tell I have proposed this layout on several similar properties layout packages as it is a very good use of space and the times you use the space actually means it isn't too bad with 'on lookers' or lighting to have it this way round. Choosing the right window dressing can help with any concerns but having a great and usable space inside (where you live) is vital. I would be happy to take a quick look and offer an opinion (free of charge) if you wanted to email me your plan and a picture of the room (gina.everett@createperfect.co.uk). I know it seems like a head ache now.. but it will be worth the additional consideration time in the long run rather than just settling for something because it is the 'norm'. All the best, Gina...See Moreliving room inspo please
Comments (5)Gorgeous inspo pics! I feel like I recommend this colour a lot but it's because I'm totally in love with it myself. Farrow & ball Cornforth white is a warm light grey (looks almost white going on but is definitely grey). This is my room in Cornforth white (it is a west facing room). Drop Cloth is also a light greigey colour or lighter still is slipper satin. depending on your budget, you can colour match these shades. These colours will give you lots of flexibility with accessories and furniture (black accents will look great). if you're after a more detailed step by step approach I offer an online design service in which I provide scaled layouts, design and a click through shopping list. otherwise I hope this is a useful starting point for you! You've got a big space with so much potential!...See Morefireplace inspo
Comments (13)I’m sorry but I’m not sure about that surround, it looks like a gallows! We replaced an old, horrible fireplace with a new surround and hearth on a very tight budget when we moved in in 1983 and I still love it. We removed some of the brick rubbish inside, washed all the bricks, then bought a natural pine surround from B&Q for £99 and painted it white. The hearth is actually sandstone garden paving, so cheap as chips. It was difficult to find a stone hearth cheaply so it had to do. So I would source another surround, paint it any colour you wish - white, grey, black, any colour you like. The hearth looks okay, I think. This is mine with an electric fire....See MoreHi, please would you advise me on how to improve my front of house? 8
Comments (8)If it were my house, I’d paint the flashing beneath the first floor bay window black, and the front door a lovely bright colour, perhaps turquoise. Do you need all the drive area for parking? If not I’d take up curved area of pavers on the left (leaving a walkway of pavers in front of the window) to create a bed and introduce some structured planting. Depending on how the pavers are set, though, that may be a significant job. In the meantime, add a couple of large planters with something like bay on either side of the front door. It’s often a good idea to check with neighbours to see what grows well in the particular conditions of your front gardens....See More
