Recessed light placement?? Also, advice on size and type~

I need help as to what type and size of recessed lights for my new kitchen. Also, not sure how many I need, not looking for bright lights, I use a lot of dimmers. Pendants will go over Island, will have a 12" overhang. Kitchen is open to dining room, plan on a chandelier in center of room.

Consider using the Halo 6 in. Aluminum recessed lights; if this is a kitchen make-over, ensure they are appropriate for remodeling projects. You may want to use 5-6 recessed lights in this area, on dimmers. Think about placing one in front of the sink, one in the general area of the range, one near the lazy susan, one near the living room/kitchen wall and one where you will be entering the kitchen, so that you can turn it on at nightime for visibility. Use a warm color temperature to prevent stark lighting.

Hi Jenny. Why not keep it simple to go with the table so something like this but maybe a simple scandi fern print or something rather than just the frame.cox and cox have a number of vases that would suit plus faux stems or try oka, Neptune or Abigail ahern for the stems but would keep them simple. I'd try and marry the other objects in some way ie colour, style, material, shape etc. I also have a chair on my landing and I have to say it does get used! Hopefully you have another spare corner.

The use of LED tape is very versatile and relatively easy to incorporate into cabinetry, some top tips: - Think about where you locate your lighting driver as some tapes need to have this relatively local - Always place tape on the aluminium profile as this prolongs it's life and performance - Most will come with a diffuser that will eliminate 'spotting' of the individual LED and give a smooth light spread on the surface/wall - If you have a few lighting scenes then consider some lighting control like Lightwave

my thinking was the table could be pushed flush with the island the majority of the time leaving a gap to walk past of approx 140cm. Thats with a 110cm gap between island and units, 90cm island and 90cm table. Or if you rotate the table and have it pushed with one end against the island, a 120cm table would sit 4 and leave 110cm to pass which is the same as the gap between island and units. If it was an extending table it can be rotated 90 degrees on the rare occasion more seating is required. Yes, it would mean it would probably close off that side of the room but if it's not a daily occurance? Some compromises will have to be made if you really want to fit everything in that space unfortunately.

Smart bulbs are definitely worth looking at. I use Hive (which I initially got to control my boiler but expanded into other things). You’ll need a hub, but you can control lighting schemes really well, including when you’re not home. There are a lot of choices out there and, so far, I’ve used ES27, bayonet and GU10s. I have basic dimmable, tuneable (which go from warm white to bright cool white, and colour change). To further make use of the system, I’ve used movement and door sensors to turn lights on and off automatically and plugs to operate other devices. All these things enhance security and make it more comfortable for my dogs - nervous chihuahuas - in the winter if I’m not home before dark. I’ve also had LED fittings which claim to last thousands of hours but have had to replace them in less than 2 years. Fine if they’re the cheaper end of the scale, but I wouldn’t spend any more than £25 based on my experience.
