should i paint the cupboards & their surround white plus change the ha
Comments (7)The copper coloured containers near the stove and the yellow colour in the kitchen gives me the cue as to what to do. This is more a contemporary styled kitchen. I would infuse it with bold and bright coloured equipments, utensils to take advantage of the dark backsplash. Bold and bright colours such as red, yellow chrome or copper/gold will help take the focus away from the cream that is irking you. If your coffee machine is new then replace it with crome and red one. I would have a coloured caddy and for the utensils. Brighten up the area near the microwave and your kitchen will look classy. Do away with black - An obvious contrast to cream and white but with a dark work top and backsplash, not the best choice....See MoreWhat should I do with this fireplace?
Comments (13)i would leave the hearth tiles, even if they are cracked. or get an expert restorer in if you have the budget. if you really can't stand it - build fitted cupboards the whole length of the wall to hide it. it would be vandalism to get rid, in my opinion... i have white church candles in the fire basket of mine, which looks nice. a friend with one similar to yours went for stripped floorboards, a black and gold chinese rug, black and gold sari fabric drapes and cream walls. stunning! clean the mantle [i think it is slate] with linseed oil. those side tiles do match, don't they? isn't it just the lighting making them different?...See MoreShould I paint my fireplace.
Comments (10)Hi there, Personally, I would definitely paint your fire place/ mantle. I think they are both very lovely but really could do with a lift. The only trouble is, how easy would it be to strip, prime and repaint these two. The next question is - what colour scheme is this room or do you hope it to be? I think sticking to a neutral tone would be best, but if you have a bold taste then you will need to pick up a few samples and see what would work best! Comments (16)Hello Nicola E, How you treat the paint work entirely depends on what you want to stand out.. The fireplace or the wardrobes.. This too depends on what else is happening in the room... If just a bed then it's entirely possible to create a feature of said wardrobes by painting them a bolder colour or the chimney breast a darker colour.. Look at the room and consider what you'd like to have as a focal point and how big the room is.. Shades of cream and off whites are far nicer than white.. So if you decide to include a white scheme, definitely look at shades of off white and creams.. Little Greene has a lovely range of chalky colours.. such as Whitening, White Lead, Stock etc.. These can be chosen for wood and walls.... They give a warm, chalky and sophisticated look which can blend beautifully with colours such as Celestial blue or James just to talk of blue and these are warm not cold blues .. I also like Juniper Ash which is a slightly mauve colour but look for warm versions of a colour you like.. So if the fireplace is to stand out and the wardrobes are a pale creamy colour the accent and focus is the fireplace which will benefit if the room is smaller than you'd like.. If you have a large bed then this might be the best way to consider it. If the room is large and you want something to create a statement then consider the fireplace and wardrobes.. A shade or two darker for wardrobes than chimney breast will create a frame surrounding both the fireplace and for the bed if this is facing on the opposite wall.. Blend the bedding and cushions, should you choose them into the scheme to create a cohesive and stylish finish. Lastly if you want a pale room with painted wardrobes these will form a statement and frame if you have less in the room... : )) Blended.... Contrast... This one isn't a bedroom but you get the idea.....See Morecpaul1
