i think , a big if not a few rectangular ~(the width of your sofa ) cavas black and white picture of your self with bright bold coloured high lights eg:your lips pink, or another option is loads of black plan frames black and white picture ,or dried leaf and plants , and the style for the mirror i advise , square georgian style mirror , silver gold or black to match the mantel piece

If the units are to stay as they are I would agree with painting them. I would also however remove the tiles. You could just replace with paint, mirror or wallpaper. If you go ahead with painting I would also change the handles so they're not matching the kitchen. Brass might be an option as you've got a few brassy bits around. I might also add a tray with decanters and glasses similar to the first pic so it feels more dining room

So many great ideas, love all of them and so much to think about! All of the suggestions have definitely made me think more widely about options- going to think about upcycling, check out antique centres, look at higher options which I hadn’t thought about at all and look at all the great options that have been suggested. I think I’ve definitely discounted just grey and going to try something a bit different! Thanks for the nice comments about the decoration too, we love it so far- before it had horrible old damaged laminate and a patio door with a fire escape where the big window is, which we removed and put bifold doors downstairs so we didn’t need the door anymore.

A grey could look nice, with legs that are tapered so that it lifted off the floor which will help with space or if you want to add more colour you could go for the dark blue which is in your rug.
