Need all your help with a tiny bathroom please!
Comments (21)One possible solution. It gives you the bath and shower in one unit behind the door away from the window as well as the sink and WC of course. Admittedly a little tight on plan at the end of the shower bath but your upper body and arms would be free to move over the end of the bath and into the window recess, and your feet, whether standing or sitting, would always be in front of the WC where you have more space. The sink has plenty of space around it with room for a towel rail adjacent. The sanitary where is all taken from the Ideal Standard website but you could use any manufacturer - the point is it can be done. I would also make the glazing obscure, if it is not already, by using an after market stick on film cut to size. You can get plenty of patterns or just frosted. You could also add blinds as previously suggested. Note: any proposed layout could be affected by the proximity of your existing foul water drainage - just bear that in mind....See MoreWhat ballpark budget for our renovation? Please help!
Comments (10)Thanks both. central heating doesn't work properly so has to be replaced, the boiler would probably keep going but the system simply isnt heating the house and there is nothing but a gas fire for the existing dining and kitchen with no heat whatsoever in the utility and loo, bbrrrrrr! not sure i can compromise on the patio doors - will have to think on that. We could save by re-using some of our existing kitchen units and getting them re-sprayed. Also would having coated black steels be cheaper than boarding/plastering over them, I'm liking the whole industrial look at the moment? I've scribbled a couple of other ideas, would either be any cheaper?...See MoreOld bathroom needs a revamp!!
Comments (15)The first thing you need to do is create storage. If you change your pedestal sink for a vanity, there would be storage below for bottles and jars. Also, you have some space at the end of your shower. Have your local joiner make a shallow, tall cupboard right down to the tub to make it look built in. Finish it in an exterior paint to take the moisture from the shower. There are specialist paints for tiles. Forget B & Q. Go to your local decorators' merchants for advice and good quality paints. If the quantity of mirror is not to your taste, remove the one to the left of the toilet, however the wall would be recessed from the front of the tiles below and the only way to repair that would be to tile with the same size tiles, then paint them as well. Better to leave the mirror until you've done the tile painting. A glass shower screen, replacing the curtain, will make the room seem larger. Painting the tiles white would make the room clean and fresh and neutral. I'd leave the floor as is. Wood is warm visually and underfoot. Using some natural baskets for waste and for a planter would link to the floor. Warm the room up with brightly coloured towels and bathmat. Put up some colourful prints using double sided tape to stick to the tiles and the mirror....See MoreFamily bathroom renovation - where to buy tiles/sanitary ware ?
Comments (23)I've read about the problems some people have had with electric underfloor heating. Mostly the cost of running it. Underfloor heating works best with good insulation under it. Fitters of electric underfloor heating avoid insulation to keep the height of the new floor to a minimum, but this results in a lot of heat loss into the floor. With electric costing four times the amount gas does some have said with the huge heat loss through the floor combined with cost of electric they saw their bills go up ten fold. The electric may seem like it's cheaper but overall it can cost a lot more. Especially if you are doing the entire ground floor. I recommend researching further before committing to electric underfloor heating....See MoreCaldicot Kitchen & Bathroom Centre
