Rug size and placement in my living room

Hi, I have just had my new sofas delivered and am struggling a little with what rug size to get and how to place it( under front legs or not).
It's a sectional sofa against the wall and a 2 seater opposite on wall to wall carpet. The room is a little awkwardly shaped hence the sofa arrangement. The leather sofa doesn't align with the corner sofa.
Any thoughts on my rug choice i.e. Size and placement?

Hi. I'd go for a cowhide with little or no markings and add a round coffee table. I think you'll struggle with a normal rug as it's going to go against the skirting board by the door and may look odd. Try marking it out with sheets though to see what you think

Room plan and photo's definitely. If the fireplace is in the middle, then that's the focal point, so maybe the sofa could go opposite ( or is the door in the way? )

Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains. White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns. I don't think you need a rug. You have carpet, so you don't need it for warmth/softness. And once you have a coffee table in place, curtains or blinds, lamps, etc. I don't think you'll miss a rug

Why did you get the leather sofa and not a chair? Or two chairs? Would that not have made the configuration easier?

Here is I tried to use cowhide and bamboo shutters. I am not so skillful at Photoshop, so just get an idea.

I think forget the rug, but a nice low footstool in a colour to suit your final decor would look really nice in the middle. I have one and it acts as a coffee table in the day and when we're chilling in the evening watching tv we use it as a footstool. May I suggest a little more colour as everything is a bit too brown and beige at the moment? Turquoise, pale green or blush pink would be nice in the curtains/blinds and cushions. I must say that corner sofa looks very comfy and cosy!

I would pull out corner sofa, pull out a foot or so from the wall so that it's not just stuck along the wall - I think it looks like you have the room to do that. If you do that then you might be able to align the 2 seater with it? That would be lovely.

Wow thanks for all the ideas.i know everything looks really brown but the contrasting cushions were delayed and should be gère n'est week.
The pic was taken the day they arrived and we have moved the sofa away from the wall so that we can have a light behind.

I really wanted 2 chairs instead of the sofa but my other half was not keen on that style unfortunately.

I am sorting all the other bits in coffee tables, mirrors, curtains now and will leave the rug for last and see how it all comes together before tackling the rug situation.

Thank you also for all the photo shop images. Does Houzz have that feature? I would love to be able to do that!

Not sure if it's obvious in the photo but the leather sofa is sitting a little over a metre away from the back wall. I'm hoping to put a very slim console table against the wall with a mirror above it.
Art work will go above the corner sofa , but another dilemma. Do I consider centring the art ( 2 or 3) according to centre of the sofa or the wall?

I'd centre the art to the sofa. Ideally you want it at eye level but also just a few inches above the sofa so it "connects" to the sofa.

I use the actual photoshop computer program, don't know if Houzz has a similar feature. Don't think so

Even though centring the art above the sofa is a good idea, sometimes it feels better to centre it on the wall or even not centring it at all. Depends on the situation, what else is going on on that side of the room (any tall objects like lamps or plants) and on the size of the art. Sometimes it's more interesting to hang a painting more to the left or to the right.

I'm going to get the smaller bits of furniture and accessories in first and look at the wall arts around that. At the moment I only have the sofas which feels bare.
I'll update with pics as I go along, I love the different ideas you've all shared with me!
