What to put with this bathroom floor tile?
Comments (8)You're welcome! This is an exciting project and I really hope you'll share the results, whatever you decide to do! I think metro tiles are the right way to go. You've already got pattern and bold colour covered so something more simple is probably right for the walls. Besides, it's a classic design. You could do it with a dark grout if you wanted to make a bolder statement. [This Houzz story[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/magazine/decorating-10-different-ways-to-use-classic-metro-tiles-stsetivw-vs~25104664) about metro tiles shows them mostly with dark grout and might help you visualise it. Marble would definitely work and look incredible. Just be careful to bear in mind the structure of the unit and how much weight it can hold. You have to consider the weight of the surface material, the sink, and the water it would have in it when full. Maybe even think about what you're going to fill the cupboards with and how heavy that could be. Perhaps it would be worth reinforcing the vanity in some way. Other than marble you could use tiles or just varnish the surface really well. All of these options will look great in different ways. Even though you're not DIY-ing it, take a look at this "how-to" to give you a better idea of the process. I bought a new sink and vanity from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/fullen-t%C3%A4lleviken-wash-basin-cabinet-white-spr-39891444/ However, it's occurred to me since that it'll take up too much of the room/floorspace, especially as the sink faces you as you walk in. I've been looking at other designs, and the wall-hung sink with a nicer-looking chrome waste could be a much better option. Added to this, if I'm tiling the floor, I'll probably need to buy a new loo, and IKEA doesn't do matching loos. Therefore...where can I buy a basic loo/basin package? What's the difference between a 'toilet and basin' and a 'cloakroom suite'? Should I go for one or two tap holes? Am I wasting my money? Should I just update the taps on the existing sink and tile-box in the waste?...See MoreWhich metro tiles?
Comments (15)What colour grouting is what our clients always struggle with. When going for a metro tile and a wood finish vanity unit, we suggest the white tile with darker grey grouting. It will give the effect of a more rustic/industrial bathroom. Cream metro tile is suitable for more traditional victorian, does not look very fresh tbh. And white metro with white grouting is for more contemporary bathrooms, but we believe that way the metro brick effect wall looses its charm. Examples of all three are below. Good luck, I'm sure it will look great at the end. You cannot really go wrong with metro tiles, in whichever version they might be....See MoreBathroom tile design help
Comments (18)We've finally decided on a plan! We're having white metro tiles half way up the wall on all three walls apart from the towel rail wall (opposite the bath). Currently we have skirting all round the room. The thing we're stuck on is, do we tile all the wall to the floor and have the skirting removed, keeping skirting on the none tiled walls. Or keep the skirting all the way round. We're having the coving removed to help with the height issue and make the room feel taller (hopefully!). Also getting new flooring. I've included photos of the wall opposite the bath for reference. Let me know if you think any of our ideas will look silly though as I know you guys are so helpful and can visualise things better than me!...See Moretatts
