POLL: How often do you change your cutting board?
Comments (40)I never, ever change mine. I use a butcher block and a huge thick wooden cutting board, only taking care to keep my fruits from suddenly tasting like onions or garlic. Studies have shown that a wooden cutting board is naturally resistant to bacteria, so I scrape and then wash mine off with soap and water after use. All this absurd paranoia about cleanliness is the product of marketing, not science, and the supposedly more sterile plastic ones are actually much better petri dishes for bacterial growth, which is why they must be cleaned and disposed of regularly. Fine if you want to keep plastic cutting board manufacturers in China working, but not at all safer or cleaner....See MoreInstalling a non-IKEA farmhouse sink into IKEA base cabinets
Comments (5)Thanks Victoria. That's just what we're after and almost perfect... except it's 10cm too wide. I'm just not sure if there is any way round that, e.g. widening the cabinet frame with an extra slat of wood at the sides.... the doors will be made to measure so could cover all that, but I'm not sure how the hinges would work and I'd prefer it if they were functional......See MoreDo roller shutter kitchen wall cabinets exist?
Comments (11)Elizabeth, don't be mislead thinking anyone different to Howdens, B&Q or Ikea will be more expensive. We are a small joinery and kitchen company based in Staffordshire and like for like we compete with the 3 major sellers above. As a word of caution Howden's worktops are cheap and nasty. They do not have a laminate backing on them. You open a dishwasher door and the heat from the appliance goes straight up into the underside of the worktops. It's not long before the quality, or lack of, shows up. If you're looking for a decent worktop look for a Bushboard brand e.g. Prima, Omega or Odyssey or Axiom by Formica or Egger....See MoreWhat kitchen shelves do we go with?
Comments (11)Your shelving is very cute, but maybe a bit flat. Shelving always looks better with a mixture of tall and short, fat and thin etc. Of course you are limited height wise so how about a plant or two? Say one tall and one trailing sitting on top of the Shelves. If you’re worried about caring for plants, there are some lovely faux ones about. As to lighting I think wall lights would be in keeping rather like this...See MoreUser
