Design ideas welcome!
Comments (11)Thanks so much folks! There are some really awesome ideas in here that we hadnt reconsidered ! We aren't keen on a Murphy bed because of the size of them which usually makes existing rooms smaller so we'd keep a sofa bed instead if we couldn't make a genuine second bedroom area but having seen some of the designs for opening it up and creating a second bed at the back I think I may revisit the budged and see if it can stretch more because having a second room would be great and add a ton of value so may well be worth the added expense. Thanks again what a creative bunch - keep ideas coming if you think of any more! Will update if/when we decide on a layout too...See MoreDouble Story Extension - any one else starting a project soon?
Comments (74)Wow that looks beautiful, I am jealous of the brick. We wanted a very similar colour brick but the council wouldn’t allow and I didn’t want the red brick so we went with blocks and hopefully crisp render. We started our build towards end of Jan. Double extension, the foundations laid and then had the structural engineer out and final final details drawn up. The ground floor blocks have been laid and the scaffold has gone up so don’t know how long that will take. Our builders seem on track and have said August finish but I think it will be September/October Tani how many bedrooms did you have built and how many rooms downstairs? Also from start date to now what has the time scale been? Xx...See More“front garden” inspo welcomed
Comments (10)Meter boxes are ugly aren’t they! You could paint them black with appropriate metal paint, might help them seem less obvious. Of course you still need access to them plus I can see an outside tap there as well. So going from your inspiration pic I might go for a large pot with hostas in then get a wheelbase so you can move the pot when needed. A biggish ceramic glazed one which is frost resistant are best in my experience. Hostas will do great in a pot and come back year after year plus having it on a wheelbase will make it harder for the slugs to get at:). I can suggest a few plants for hanging basket if you want low maintenance but I was thinking instead of plants how about a nice lantern light. You could d.i.y your own using the basket upside down then hanging lots of beads and solar lights or fairy lights. Agree with Forza about cutting back the roses and ground cover suggestions. Comments (13)Hi all thank you so much for these comments. My mum (who is in her 60s!) has mainly helped with the design - combined with reviewing a lot of mags & brochures. Interestingly (like Richard’s comment) she is strongly against the built in casing for the fridge freezer... perhaps I’ll flip it round so it’s on the other side & allow some room so if needs be it can be less “built in”. I am concerned a lot of key things are bunched around that little section, one door (opposite the window) is the entrance to the room. The other door, at 90 degrees to it is the utility room which I’m thinking will not be that busy.... Charlotte your comments re range & extractor hood are super helpful & I’ll have a look on the website too :) plus speak with hubby about your suggestion of a call to get a proper / more considered design done. Thank you :) One Plan I’m sorry I totally missed pointing that out - we had the builders take out that pillar. The doors are as shown though. I’ve taken some photos which may help (excuse the mess!) I honestly hadn’t thought about the DW being a trip hazard, bugger. We’ve had the floor concreted down but it’s not tiled so wonder if we can get some plumbing in still to accommodate a sink & potentially DW elsewhere... Kwg also making me think very differently re trying to move more into the other wall area! We’d thought people would sit round the island there which is why the wine fridge & rack was put close by! We went into Harvey Jones & they have prepared the drawings based on the ones we’d done...we were there a couple of hours & we’re pleased to see it marked out properly! Although they don’t do a CAD image which was a bummer when we found out! I’ve had a look online though & think I can do one myself... just need to reassess the layout I think! On budget, that’s a sticky subject as it just keeps getting higher! Would having the mantle done be a job for the builders if we did have it built in like the gorgeous photos hock79 found? Who does that? I really am incredibly grateful for all your help guys, thank you! B...See MoreJuliet Docherty
