Hey! I've just seen the last comments. I live in Spain and there doesn't seem to be as much choice over here as there is in the USA after browsing at lot.. the Gubi light does look similar to one of the Tom Dixon beats shapes and I like the oriental vibe they give.. I am leaning toward that style for the pendants and will probably end up going with one. As for the splashback.. it's a nightmare.. I really have no idea.. I think dark like black and I think it will look to much and take away from the accents.. I think of grey and I think it's too boring and monocromatic.. I think of colour and I get scared lol.. really don't know and to be honest... I do regret going all white in the kitchen and not going with something darker or mid tone on the lowers at the back to ground it a bit more. I see so many kitchens on Instagram and Pinterest and I am always drawn to the darker ones.. but as I have a darker floor, I thought it would be too much. Anyway, it's done now and I guess we all have things we would do differently. I could always relacquer the lower doors quite cheaply if it came to it I guess. I really love Hague Blue by farrow and ball and have always wanted to use it but I think it wouldn't fit in anywhere and I'm not brave enough anyway🙈 Some good news is that I have finally managed to get the stonemason to change the island worktop which he destroyed after cleaning it with paint thinner.. after 4 months of fighting and the carpenter also finished up all the last details this week.. after 5 months. Stonemason has offered to give me a big discount on the splashback if I put a slab on the wall but really have no idea.. options are Dekton, Silestone, Neolith and Compac colours. By the way.. just saw this flat on pinterest and it reminded me of mine a bit but well done and with a more interesting kitchen.. trying to get some inspiration from it: https://hot-walls.ru/portfolio/сердце-столицы-99/ My favourite designs seem to all be Russian for some reason.. 😅

Thank you all for views! We had considered various options such as those suggested but then would always come back to one of our boxes not being ticked so I do agree we may have created more walls than needed and maybe cramped the space? However I did still think the kitchen would be spacious enough? And the living room wall, when building we could see how we feel about this. I do think a dining table could also work in that corner and playroom instead of the dining room BUT then we are without the living room that we wanted. In terms of dining and kids eating, in our current house we have a breakfast bar with 4 stools and a high chair and his does work well. Also I would use the dining area/table as a family too but realistically probably not everyday. Maybe a small round table could be put into the kitchen also? I would just have to see what fits without it’s being cramped. Utility I thought it would make sense to have access from the kitchen? In terms of the formal lounge, I think that’s all it is...we want it as a formal lounge, also as someone mentioned it will stay tidy and away from the noise. Id say a large chunk of the house is dedicated to me and the children and I thought that area could be a kid free zone in a sense. I also have a lot of nephews/nieces that would visit often. It’s more about it being formal than it being dedicated to my husbands entertainment as unfortunately he doesn’t have much time for this due to long work hours.

Hello - sound like an exciting project and I really hope you find a professional you enjoy. If you are maintaining the structural walls within the apartment then, yes, an interior designer (or interior architect) can help you visualise your options with floor planning and 3D modelling. A designer can also make sure your plans get signed off on by your local council (and your apartment building). I personally give my clients 3 design/floor plan options so they can really have some choices. Maybe ask for something like this when you talk to a professional? Where are you located? I do know quite a few interior architect studios around the uk. My biggest tip would be to trust your gut when hiring someone for your home, talk to several professionals and go with someone you like because you will be spending a lot of time with them in the next few months. When I had my kitchen changed, I ordered the units myself, as well as the worktop, sink, taps and appliances. Things like plasterboard, cement, etc the builder bought it. My builder was my brother, and he called in the trades such as electrician, tiler, plasterer etc. He is a brilliant builder and is a “one man band” with a labourer who works for him. He has all the contacts for the other tradespeople (sub contractors) and he calls them in when required, so although they are self employed, they work as a team as required. I paid each tradesperson direct. It really works well but occasionally someone doesn’t pull his weight and they are replaced. I don’t think you will find contractors who employ their own tradespeople unless it’s a very big company? Even big house building companies tend to use subcontractors for certain jobs. This is just my experience but then I know I am very lucky to have a builder brother. It will be interesting to see what other Houzzers suggest. I’m sure you’ll get lots of advice on here!
