House Exterior Colours

We're having our cladding redone soon, so it seems like a good time to do a bit of an exterior makeover. What colours would you paint the following:

- the wood cladding

- the garage door

- the front door

I think it could be nice to match the garage door to the front door, leaving the little cupboard door matching the wood cladding, what do you think? (If any computer geniuses fancy mocking up some ideas based on the photo I would be eternally grateful, it's so hard to visualise!)

Oh and husband seems to think painting the brick white would look good... This idea terrifies me!

Hi Emilie,

If I was you I'd do the cladding in dark grey, and make a statement in royal blue with the two doors at the front. I wouldn't change the front door colour necessarily as it matches the surround and the windows as it is.

Ok, so here are a couple of photos of the colour. I have a wooden gate at the front of the house which is painted in 'Windmill Lane' (Little Greene), so don't want to go OTT on green, as I also like the fact the gate is a different colour. The front of the house is a bit dated in terms of its style, but with some big planters containing climbing roses which will grow up and around the storm porch, this should also soften the look and make it more 'country'. Also, the border which is currently dark grey, is going to be painted in Rock Salt too. So looking for a bit of colour on the window ledges only. I'd be really grateful for your advice/ideas!

Gutters, barge boards and soffits need to be "hidden", so paint them in the same colour as the their surroundings - otherwise they stick out like a sore thumb.

Your colour scheme sounds lovely. I don’t think it will be boring as the style of your house already makes it shine. Here’s a couple of pics of painted houses similar to yours. There have been several Advice posts lately about front door colours which may be of help.

P.s I think your husband is right, the painted brick would look good!
