Office space vs access (to wires&pipes!!)
Comments (36)Hello again!! Just short of 2 years later, my den is finally finished and looks pretty much like how I've envisaged it. Few months ago, I was extremely lucky to meet this carpenter who is really good and doesn't mind building my 'designs' :)) and we got to work. After finishing the hall and main bedroom (http://www.houzz.co.uk/projects/723044/hall / [https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/colour-for-unit-top-dsvw-vd~2977620[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/colour-for-unit-top-dsvw-vd~2977620)) we finally started on my den. As you'll notice, in planning the space, I've used a mixture of your ideas above: it has a secret door, a (folding) desk, it's a bit of an art gallery and has a few other surprises! The initial plan had to be altered to accommodate my new hobby :)). Almost one year ago, I had this mad idea to start painting (on) glass and then to make silly clay figurines, so I adapted the space to suit my pursuits (like the slightly tilted shelves for paints, peg board for scissors, top shelf for expo, etc). Plus, you can't really tell which of the panels are in fact secrets doors!! As for the rest, I bought a rubber mat to protect the oak floor and I'm using a trolley for the rest of the materials, so it can easily be moved out the way in case we need access to the back. Carpenter insisted on the LEDs, I'm not that keen on them. So, ignoring the arty-farty clutter, what do you think of my space?...See MoreHelp me with my plans for a Founding Epoch apt
Comments (10)Hello Rinreation, thank you very much for your ideas. They are brilliant! It is great to have an idea of how it could look like. Downstairs: Master bedroom: I think the space between the wall and column is smaller than 2.30. From what I checked before I would be able to just about fit a bed the other way around against the existing wall. I will check again. Guest bedroom: I will also check measures for the proposed guest room. It looks like this room would be around 6.35 sqm. Office: Perfect if we do split the room this way. Bathroom: I really like your idea! Unfortunately, my partner is saying that we might not be in this place for about 2 years. So he is a little reluctant to change the bathroom. Could you imagine splitting this room in any different way? It is fairly easy and cheap to create the walls, so my partner is up for it. Kitchen: we are going to pull all water connections upstairs for the kitchen. I though of having a quite modern kitchen. I will post some images from Houzz. Someone in Germany suggested contacting this guys for reasonable and good quality kitchens - http://www.kiveda.de/kuechenplanung/ What do you think? Thanks again :)...See MoreBedroom Layout help
Comments (30)One plan - thank you thank you thank you... I have been at work all day earning £ to pay for this little lot and have only just seen your plans and advice. Your quick(??) sketch up shows exactly what I was thinking but couldn't visualise. It looks great. What width would you advise is the minimum for the walk in to allow movement space ? It has even prompted the man of the house to get his tape measure out which is good ! This would definitely give us the most storage space of all our options. So now there are 3 options To weigh up. 1. Walk in - Will throw current symmetry of room, but will definitely give the most hidden storage space (perfect as we also need linen and towel storage for the house within this room somewhere). Assuming cost will be studded wall, plastering plus internal fittings. 2. Alcove wardrobes - Will maintain symmetry of the room, will give the least storage of all options. Probably the most expensive option as will require bespoke alcoves with internal fittings. May install fireplace/ dressing table to chimney breast. 3. Wardrobe bank along wall opposite chimney. This would maintain symmetry of alcoves. I think storage would probably be somewhere between the other 2 options. Maybe more potential to get wardrobe company in to have a look. I like the look of the handle less ones shown above. Would leave option of bed on wall either as you come into the room or on the chimney breast. Luciana - thanks for your measurements - really helpful. I will add them onto our plan to check how the space works. I'm in Bristol - which Italian company did you use ? Those fittings are really lovely. I'm not sure where else to source just the interior bits. All - we have the most fabulous carpenter - retired guy who doesn't charge the earth and also just does a few jobs to keep himself out of his wife's hair ! Perfect - he's been one of the finds of our job - a real gem. Really appreciate all the advice - I'm going over to see how monk0104 is getting on with her kitchen plan. What fun this is !!...See MoreMums birthday surprise. Thoughts?
Comments (4)You are lovely to want to do this ! Just a thought - might it not be a good idea to organise for her DVD collection to be downloaded onto a hard drive instead - then she can sell the actual dvds on magpie and treat herself ! Will free up loads and loads of space ? Bedrooms are sometimes quite private spaces - even us designers tread lightly when dealing with people's private spaces... and that's when we are invited in to help! - so maybe find out as much as you can about her dream bedroom before you start ?!? Using the design app with her might be a good start ?!?!...See MoreSandy R
