Shower over freestanding bath, without a curtain. Is my plan logical?!
Comments (48)Free standing baths are only suitable for larger rooms where you have the ability to position the bath with free access all the way round, I regularly remove them from smaller bathrooms when doing re-fits, people like the aesthetics of the free standing bath and plough ahead and install them against a wall, the result is a disgusting accumulation of dust, fluff, pubic hair etc, this will happen quite quickly and you will regret having gone down this route. The concept of having the bath with no curtain is interesting though, in a bathroom around 2.1m square, most of the bathroom will be effected by splashing, the room will need a wet room floor former, and will require that the whole room is tanked prior to tiling, have a look at. (http://www.wetroominnovations.com) I usually use their Maxus formers and Purus gully traps. you can indeed get a flexible waste connection, have a look at McAlpine "Flexcon" range, these are available through any reputable merchants, these are quite substantial and would stand up to semi regular movement, if your free standing bath is an acrylic bath it won't be too heavy, so moving it would be quite straight forward, but I would suggest having small felt pads on the feet to protect the tiled surface, also from a drying point of view, Karcher have a very good little gadget for cleaning windows, which vacuums up the water, I often mention it to clients and any who have bought one have been delighted at how easy it is to use, it will leave the floor almost dry once you have used it, one note of caution would be your choice of floor tile, you will need a porcelain tile that has an R rating, this is a slip resistant rating and would be most advised. another note of caution, because the splashing will not be controlled, any vanity or wood based furniture will deteriorate. I hope this is of some help....See MorePlease help me with colour scheme for my house
Comments (20)I was a die hard F&B fan - painted numerous houses solely in F&B for the finish etc. HOWEVER due to budget constraints, a current offer at Homebase on Dulux paint (inc. mix) , and the fact i'm painting an entire 3 storey house i experimented with colour matching F&B colours - specifically Cornforth White, Purebeck Stone, Ammonite and Pink Ground. Opting for the Endurance Matt and Flat Matt finishes by Dulux i was pleasantly surprised by the results. The colour match was pretty much spot on - i would caveat that the Dulux colour match won't produce matching finishes for all colours. For example Dulux couldn't match a flat eggshell in the Cornforth White so we bought Estate Eggshell from F&B and it goes perfectly well with the walls in the matched Dulux Endurance Matt. In the master bedroom we choose to use F&B Cornforth White and Pink Ground and estate emulsion and I felt it was a thinner paint than the Dulux! The added benefit of the Dulux colour match is that they can provide a number of different more durable finishes. Comments (36)Personally I would try not to develop the family room as I sense it will never be the contemporary structure dominating your ideasbook and will eventually be replaced. Given that you have mentioned later extension I think I would be looking to open up the rooms you currently have and add extra rooms later as the budget allows it. Personally I would want a big lounge on the right hand side and I would put hubbys desk in the niche and either screen it when you all want to be in the lounge or alternatively buy a beautiful desk for the niche and hide a wireless printer and filing cabinet in the store room which I imagine is also plenty big enough to be a utility....See MorePlease critique my lounge plans!
Comments (6)Thanks so much for your comments OnePlan. I love what you said about putting lights outside. I want to do the windows now just for that - could look so cosy! Thanks for the reassurance with the doors. I think we will go with this. Hmmm I'm not sure a barn door is quite what I want here. I'm not bothered about access to the kitchen from the lounge, it's more for light purposes, but it's a valid point about interruption to walkway, one that I had considered. I wonder if interior bifolds or something like that might work, although there would still be the view into the kitchen problem. it isn't important for tv in here - we do have another snug, so this would be more social/entertaining space. There will be a lot of light already from big windows on 3 walls. Would the skylights make it hotter in here? The lounge currently is where the kitchen will be and it is a very sunny room, which does get rather warm on a sunny day....See MoreLa Flux
