Gap between Murphy bed/wall bed and headboard

Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me solve the problem I'm having of my pillows constantly sliding down the gap between my mattress and my headboard for my Murphy bed. I've tried stuffing pillows down there but as the gap is all the way to the floor, I'm having some trouble!

If you have any design suggestions, I'm all ears.

Hi,

You can buy fairly firm upholstery foam, in a large enough piece for the bottom to rest on the bed. You might also want to cover it.

If that's not firm enough then Kingspan (or similar) insulating foam definitely would be. Wrap it in something airtight so you don't breathe in the dust from it. I've got insulating foam wrapped in PVC wipe-clean tablecloth fabric for a footrest right now.

Hi, I would love to see the end result if you do have any pictures.. My room has no real wall to put bed against.. one alcove is 100cm.. the other 120cm however it slopes where roof is, the goes into a large L or maybe even a L and another backwards L.. Did you just get the bedroom chimney breast taken out and/pr downstairs too?

I have made bespoke headboards before not quite as big as you are looking for. They were then upholstered by a local company to where I was working. This was built and secured directly to the wall and the bed then pushed up to. I would then make a framed mirror to be fitted before the upholsterer has done their bit and the fabric can be finished off around the frame of the mirrors to make it look built in rather than an add on. Are you wanting the mirrors on the ends of the head board or the face over the bed?

Hello, I have just read your remit again. You are hoping for two bedrooms, reception, kitchen and bath/shower room but you cannot extend further than existing bathroom. I am really not sure that is feasable. Switching the bed and reception around would give you access to the rear from the reception with one bedroom at the front. You could move the bathroom to the middle (on the other side of the relocated bedroom) then combine what remains of the kitchen with the old bathroom (squaring it off with an extension to make a kitchen with a small dining space looking oit to the rear. All this is dependent on structural walls and cost implications. Your home would be better configurated but it would still be a one bedroomed flat.

I thought you might be taking a punt on a “green” country! It will be great, bet you can’t wait, just need a change in weather! Well it sounds like a great place and location and very positive re the one down the road. Have you had a nose at it?! can your desk be used as a dressing table? If so, I’d add a mirror and maybe a drum stool. Maybe some velvet curtains, not sure if these are quite long enough? A jute rug for some texture, maybe just under one bed foot. I’d also dress the bed to make it more inviting. I have a few bouquets from Shida, they’re preserved so last for up to a year (although one of mine is older than that!), ideal for letting too, just need a blast from a hairdryer every now and again. What kind of budget do you have for the bedrooms and can look at lamps etc? One of my bug bears is not being able to dry your hair in front of a mirror (it’s amazing how many hotels etc do not consider doing makeup and hair properly!) and also lack of a full length mirror somewhere in the house. Make sure there’s easy access or extending leads for charging too!
