Hello Houzzers!!

It’s been fantastic seeing your stories unfold this year and having the pleasure of helping some of you to bring your dream homes to life.

I am delighted to announce that Create Perfect has been nominated for the Amara ‘Best Luxury Blog’ award 2017.

I want to make sure we use this time to answer some of our readers questions and their most important dilemmas. It would be great to hear what you think. What questions would you want answered for your project?

Craig, your question on Lighting Control. The rise of LED has brought new dimension to the lighting control debate. Lighting Control Systems such as Lutron are the best way to dim LED. We use Lighting Control Systems with 0-10v, DALI and DMX dimming and it's possible to get very smooth dimming to really low levels. I don't really want to suggest one system over another. I'm sure they all have their strengths. Rako offers wireless flexibility for retrofit applications, Lutron has a superb heritage and history of fantastic reliability. I'd look for dealers who are really experienced in using the system and a manufacturer with a strong local support infrastructure. Hiya Jill, thanks for sending those images over. In response to your first question about your bedroom, I can think of a couple of solutions that may work. The first is the same solution as my previous French window answer to @montbray and fit something that moves with the window, either a Pleated or a Venetian which operate under tension and open with a thumb tab rather than a cord. Alternatively, it would look quite nice if a blind, particularly a Roman blind was fitted right to the top of the wall above the window, at the ceiling. This will allow the blind to be ‘dressed’ to form a valance effect above the window when the blind is open, giving full view from, and use of the window and when it is closed, it will give the illusion of the window being taller. In the case of your bathroom blind, you might like to try a waterproof Roller blind made from PVC fabric. Alternatively, Faux wood blinds are a really great idea, as they have all the look of traditional Wooden blinds, but won't warp in wet or steamy conditions. Admittedly, it is a difficult window to dress and there are not a lot of options, but hopefully, these will give you some ideas. Sarah

I love clean lines, and I'm having terrible trouble finding a kitchen that will sit well with our layout. We live in an 1850 cottage, the back of the house is open plan, the snug has antique sofas, an old dresser, an old sideboard and a victorian windout table. What do you put with that?? It needs to have a touch of 'old traditional' with the flare of new and clean. Torn between two worlds! Sorry about the mess, wasn't expecting visitors !

I am not sure the loo has to be on the outside wall - it could be anywhere, you just have to box in the large pipe that will run from it to the outside wall. I know it's irritating when people say start again but the room seems a bit bitty and if the basin and loo were in a run of units, separated by small cupboards, with a continuous surface along the top of the whole run, it would look really rather sleek. And the pipe could run under the units, hidden by it - that's what I've done in my bathroom. Stick a mirror above the units, covering the whole wall from surface to ceiling, and side to side, and it will make the room seem much bigger. Are you having a towel radiator in there? That will add some character if you have towels that complement the colours you choose. Then add some interesting bits and pieces to make it seem less utilitarian.

I voted for colours and the way a room faces. I bought a beautiful, luxury duvet cover a few years ago. It looked a lovely dusky pink when I saw it in the shop. Brought it home, put it in my south facing bedroom and all of a sudden, the duvet cover was transformed from soothing, delicate pink to traffic-stopping bright florescent pink! There is very little information available on this topic and that's why I voted for it.
