Thanks guys. Comfort has been important to us. One of the reasons I like most leather sofas is that they can be quite firm and supportive. I hate sinking into a sofa and then struggling to get out. Wife likes fabric because it's more comfortable - she finds leather very cold in winter for example. But we both agree on the firmness so we have been trying out sofas. The wallpaper is generally very light - it doesn't come across as overpowering in real life. It's certainly more interesting than plain white/magnolia/cream walls. We both struggle with artistic vision so ideas and thoughts are what we both need to help decide. The aim was to have light/plain furniture and then have bright or contrasting colours for cushions, curtains and lampshades for example. Something to contrast with the "plain" decor.

Hi Suzie, could you perhaps do something a bit out of the box and choose something that is a splash of colour? Like a found object? Chinese ceramic stools? you can also go to vintage fairs etc. Or some companies source and stock interesting pieces. This is one : http://www.retrouvius.com/stock/storage I think more grey would be dull, more black would indeed make the room feel too small. I quite like the idea of timber for your chest of drawers etc. Difficult to visualise the space thought! Colour choice is pretty personal. I am partial to blues and purples.. but that is just me! Hi minnie101. Thank you. No they don't need a rising chair. It's just I don't think they ever had one so would like it in the new home. Chair lifts are not possible either as they won't like that and currently the mobility is not that bad. The sofa bed is for the occasional night which will be more frequent than the use it gets when people have guests over. I did look at the scandi chair and liked the look but it's not what they want unfortunately. Thank you though. I'll have to just try and find some sets that will work together. Sofa beds are hard to find as most have a very thin 6mm mattress. There is the Mayne corner sofa from made.com which has a good bed but it doesn't look so great esp in the customer pics on their website. Has anyone had experience of this sofa? Thanks

There’s an eBay seller called modernancient who has mostly mid century stuff. You can also just search eBay for 1950s furniture or 1960s furniture and that will bring up you loads of midcentury items. Also worth looking at your local auction house, our local one has masses of mid century furniture every week.
