Tiling advice

Hi

We are are putting the final touches to our ensuite bathroom.

We have opted for a corner shower which is 1200x900 wide.

We're looking for some advice for floor and wall tiles to complement the room. The sink is Matt grey.

Hi Sharon, why not install an interesting victorian wall panelling? Like the one on the link below and photos attached. You can paint it in any colour and it’s an elegant, contemporary solution for English bathrooms. I think hexagonal tiles will stuck around for another few years - I'd probably give them ten years if I was installing them now. I think it will be the colour and material which will dictate how fashionable they remain. I do like them! They are interesting. Marble will stand the test of time if you buy good quality tiles. If you are buying faux marble then make sure it is top quality too as faux/ersatz products can age badly. Also consider encaustic-style cement tiles (actual ones, not replicas - they feel nicer!) as they are very on trend right now and really suit Victorian houses. Colour-wise is entirely up to you. Neutrals - greys & whites specifically (be careful with cream/beige, right now it can look dated) - are good for bathrooms and if you want to play safe. If you like colour you can go wild with the tiles or add colour to a neutral tile scheme with paint, accessories, towels, paint etc. If your bathroom is small and you plan to stay for a few years then I recommend spending a good part of your bathroom budget on tiles and a good tiler to do them justice. Moreover, unless you are flipping the property, screw the trends and just go with what you like!

Are you specifically wanting to go for a light paint colour as sometimes it's better just to embrace the dark? i don't know if I'd go for a bitter chocolate/mahogany on the walls (I should say if you like the chair then get a fabric sample, on the website the colour works better than when I looked for an image!). You could add natural linen Roman blinds and assuming the door is opposite the fire, then a big mirror opposite the window. Maybe also some art and a table lamp in the alcove? if you want light walls maybe Farrow and ball dimity (2nd pic) would be worth a tester?

Everything is just personal preference. I agree that T bar handles are a nuisance insomuch that you can catch yourself. I’m not a knob lover but I have arthritis in my fingers and knobs are more difficult to grab as opposed to a handle. By co-incidence I was looking for black handles only this morning for a customer and while there are some it is limited. Look online at Hafele. You can’t buy direct from them but Toolstation stock some of their products or give Hafele a call and ask for a local trader. Regarding splashbacks look online at Premier Range for colourfull glass splashbacks. Hello,

I think you need some light grey colour. I am always sticking to light colours as they make the room to look bigger. Remember that white grout gets really dirty and dark after only a few months, therefore choose something off white. There is really good colour called gunmetal provided from Ball grouting which is greyish.

If it is within budget, a marble tiles would also give a luxury finish to your bathroom.

Those tiles are from Fired Earth but cheaper shape can be easily found.
