Living Room Inspiration

I have recently extended my living room & added a sky light & bifold doors, the room is open plan to the kitchen & dining room. The kitchen is a mushroom colour with dulux denim drift walls. I love it but am struggling to finish the living room. The floors will all be rustic oak & the living room wall colour is dulux crispy crumble. I am buying new sofas , rugs & curtains but it’s all starting to look a bit clinical & I feel I have lost my way a bit. Any advice would be amazing , thank you

If you have a moment, get a cup of tea and think about how you want the space to FEEL. Write some notes - cosy, family freindly, lived in, smart, crisp - whatever. Then write two or three things that each of your chosen words conjours up FOR YOU. For example, if it's cosy - it might be rugs, family photos, bright colours, if its smart it might be dramatic art, glass tables, crisp linen. The point I am trying to make is to get back in touch with what makes you tick and what will give you enjoyment. Then you can look for specific things - how to hang your family photos all on one wall, where to find a great piece of colourful art, where to get a great glass table, what colour really picks you up when you see it - so where can I find a sofa in that colour etc. Hope this helps :)

I've seen (preferably fake) fur throws or sheepskin put over chairs like your dining chairs to add texture. make sure you include surfaces for lamps and vases/candles/pretty things to cosy up the living area. Cushions are the cheapest way to cosy up a sofa.

I love the shape of these sofas and they come in lovely colours. You could keep the palette simple and go grey to match your dining chairs and add textured or coloured cushions to liven it up.

Thank you Jo, funnily enough my faux far sheepskins rugs for my chairs came this morning from La Redoute so it’s good to feel is on the right track. I really appreciate your comments
