How can I make the room look modern and get some storage
Comments (8)It is not clear if you have bought the property or how long you intend to stay there however I agree with the mirrored wardrobes. iKEA do some very reasonable ones which can be reassembled elsewhere if need be.. It looks like there may already be roller blinds to match the curtains...? If money is tight (given that a decent bed could cost the best part of £1,000) you could just lose the draped pelmets. If you are renting you may need to replace them when you leave. I think the whole room should be painted a neutral very pale shade which tones with the curtains and above all you must lose that awful carpet. For budget sake I suggest a pale white grained or lime-washed laminate which can in fact be laid straight over carpet and this will aid sound insulation. You can get the 'click' variety which is a bit more expensive but it can be reused. Any spare money can be spent on bedside cabinets, a large picture above the bed (?), a small dressing table (?), a small chair (?), wonderful bedding, a throw and some cushions to bring the whole look together. i would leave the chandelier (unless you hate it) as they are quite popular at present and you will have the additional expense of an electrician if you change it. Good luck! :)...See MoreHow can I make my living room look less cluttered?
Comments (16)Liking the eclectic look! You do have a fair amount of furniture in the space, but I think with the look you’re going for it can work well, its just learning how to work with it. I don’t think it looks cluttered at all. At present, besides the furniture, the room is fairly simple and so your eyes are mostly drawn to all the furniture. I’m thinking if you add in some accessories here and there, it will help to create interest and change the focus. It’s a great way to tie everything in together without using an area rug. For example, adding some feature wall art above the sofa, whether that be one stand alone piece or a cluster of a few. Or how about adding a nice red throw over the sofa to tie in with the red chair? Adding plants/flowers on top of furniture are always great options as others have suggested. Your oval footstool is a lovely piece. Maybe you could add a tray on it with some accessories on? In terms of creating more storage, maybe you could have a think about open shelves and find some interesting ways to display your items. But the bookcase is lovely too! I suppose it really depends how much storage you need. They’re just some initial thoughts. I won’t be offended if you don’t like!...See Morehow can I make this room more cosy?
Comments (9)I would find a more interesting, warmer and less stark paint and also paint the radiator in the same colour - whatever colour you choose, you can get an exact match paint suitable for radiators, mixed by someone like Valspar (they do it at B&Q) . I would then get a lovely rug to coordinate with the paint colour and make it more "homely". I'd also get a coloured/patterned/textured roman blind. I'd ditch the yellow stool and replace it with something less dominant and a lot more comfortable. I'd also be reluctant to introduce a bright yellow desk. Do you actually need to two work stations? The desk on the left in combination with that high stool looks extremely uncomfortable and difficult to work at, is it overly high?. Personally, I love the taupe desk, but I can see it is of little practical use in terms of size. I'd be tempted to get rid of it and have some sort of shelving or bookcase on that wall, where you can have photos and accessories, but also to provide somewhere to keep papers, files, post etc. I'm not sure there's room for the mirror as it stands, but if you feel you need to keep it, would it fit on the wall in between the desk on the left and the window wall? If you're keen on introducing that bright yellow into the room, why don't you add it with files/folders, cushions or vases etc? You could even choose it for seat upholstery or as accent colour in the blind or rug. Personally, I think it would be a mistake to have too much of such a bright colour, in a relatively small space....See MoreHelp! I can't make our en suite work
Comments (9)Don't know if this would work for you, as you've tried bedroom 1 & 2 what about using bedroom 3 and the extension as the entirely new bedroom and en-suite with a stylish walk in wardrobe to get to the en-suite? The master bedroom would be narrower but with a bed at the window end and plush seating at the other either side of the walk in door it could look really nice and save a lot of messy building work in the original house. Either that or if you skip the en-suite and use say bedroom 1 just repurpose the space left for a walk in wardrobe....See MoreNadina Edouard
