Redecorating Living Room advice
Hi! We are just about to redecorate our sitting room. We have ordered a Grey (light grey) leather corner sofa so far. We're in the process of choosing wooden flooring and a colour scheme but would love some ideas for our very small room! We are thinking of wall mounting the TV in one of the alcove. Any and all suggestions welcome! We have 2 small children so we have to be mindful of them when were planning also. This is the room as it currently looks. We had picked out a wide plank grey floor but weren't sure if it was too similar in colour to the new sofa to work. We now have a sample plank of a more beige colour wide plank floor! GettinGetting more confused by the day!! Our living room opens into our kitchen dining room which has a Canadian oak Floor so we were trying to keep a contrast in the floor colours rather than looking like it's supposed to match. that the best option do you guys reckon? Questions questions!! Thanks in advance. (We're also getting rid of the door in the pic)

Comments (4)My suggestion is, before you think about furniture, paint and accessories I would start by creating a colour palette for the room. Usually I would stick to three colours- two primary colours and the third incorporated through accessories such as cushions etc. Once you have your colour palette decided, you need to make one colour your wall colour and if you do go for a feature wall, make sure that colour is consistent with the pattern. Does that room have any windows? I’m unable to tell from the photos. If it doesn’t, I would recommend a white oak brushed laminate flooring. Being as you’re aiming for a modern design, I would keep the colours light. Say your palette was for example white, taupe and black. Perhaps have white walls with a nice feature wall that includes taupe and then accessorise with a nice black gloss coffee table, vase, black and white cushions etc. You could also have white wooden blinds. I would recommend you change the oak doors unless you want a rustic theme, then you could go down the oak road. You could also try painting them white. There’s so many options for your space because the room is such a good size. I would first think what style do I want, what colours do I want and then progress from there. Comments (10)Hi The room size is about 5 meter * 12 meter. I am planning to replace the sofas. One side of the room has bay window and other side’s window will be closing. I would leave all the woodwork as it is, but I would paint the skirting and picture rail either white, or the same colour as your chosen wall colour.. i think soft muddy colours would be good like the Farrow & Ball range. I would purchase your sofas first, and then decorate around them - paint is reasonably easy to change but sofas aren’t. I can see that room decorated in warm plush fabrics such as velvet. It's quite difficult to get wood floors to work together with different plank widths, thickness, colour, grain etc. Personally I'd go for a chevron, it will make the room feel wider and I think would work well. Choose one which has one of the tones of the kitchen floor in it. If it's in budget, I quite like the design of the built in units by Cato Creatives in your ideabook. The raised storage part (which presumably would be useful) won't make the room feel any narrower as you can see the floor beneath. You could also paint behind the shelves in a darker tone to break up the long wall and disguise the tv. If the tv fits in the left alcove I'd put it there as it looks as if it would leave room for a chair where the tv currently is with a small side table? I'd add an arc lamp behind the sofa as per 3rd pic in black and brass. Depending on sofa size is there also room for a sofa table at the end of the sofa like the 3rd pic? I'd add a large round mirror over the fire and art behind the sofa. Which way does the room face as I might just go for a white with a hint of grey on the wall? If in budget I might just go for Roman blinds as they win the visually fill the room

Or if you want a bigger change, how about upgrading to a more sophisticated modern sofa?
