Sofa Dilemma help needed please

Any advice is much appreciated. Im currently updating my living area which includes a dining room and sun room which has no dividing doors and an adjoining lounge connected through a door. I have chosen a neutral taupe carpet to go in all the rooms and each room has a piece of honey coloured oak furniture. I have ordered a slouchy corner sofa which literally goes wall to wall, give or take a couple of inches ( hoping this will look ok, thoughts on that would be appreciated). This sofa is in a heather colour and im adding stag cushion etc to give the room a relaxed informal feel. When it comes to the lounge i just cant find a sofa fabric that goes as well with the carpet other than cream ( no.go with a dog) would it be odd to order a different style sofa in the same fabric and just add different cushions. I hate choosing

HI. Why don't you look for a heather plaid? It would work well with the style you're going for

Hi Helen,

I think you should consider adding a splash of colour to your neutrals. Maybe something warm and natural, keeping with the theme. I think mustard yellow, sage or greenery would go very well with the colours you've gone for and the stag cushion :)

or if you want to go funky, why don't you go for bold geometric cushions:

I'd go with the red. You have chosen it because you like it and it will balance the feature wall. Choose a contrast black&white to go with the fire, or patterned navy or... for cushions and a few choice pieces spread around and I think it would look good. Maybe a rug too in front of the fire could include several of the colours used - would make it more cosy.

@Milfordmaid: thanks a lot for the suggestion. Lime green is sounding very nice to me. What did you mean by smaller bits of pillar box red? What do you think of the rug? I actually had a re-think and was thinking maybe I should leave out the rug. Just to use bright cushions, lampshades, and some decorative accessories combining the cushion colours and sofa colours and a bit of cream. What of the wall art?

If you hit the pro button under One Plans comment you can contact One Plan directly for professional advice. If you read One Plans reviews and various plugs from Houzzers it may well be worth it. Given this was 2 houses it may also help to have some professional help to see if anything could be done to improve the flow and general layout of the house rather than just furnish the rooms. Alternatively if you want an attempt at some amateur help (mrsmcee, am speaking about myself not you!) , I think you will need to draw a plan with exact measurements, ŵall alcoves?, windows, doors, fireplace, room openings, light fittings etc otherwise it's really quite difficult. I attempted to draw a plan for your living room last night but was just guessing at the rooms dimensions being 23ft x37ft but it didn't look that wide in the pic. I also noticed you've had a light installed over the dining table so I assume the table has to go here, and the same for your seating arrangement? The foyer should be quite easy but need pics of where the fireplace is (although could probably guess on that looking at the plan!). Photos of each room from different angles would also really help. What by the way is room E on the plan? I hope that helps!

I think that the fire place is beautiful as it is and does not need any make up!! The sideboard on the right is no so big at all and if painted with different colour than grey and distressed could become a much lighter piece with its own character. I would take the top off the left one and again shabby chick it, filling the doors with ornaments to make it more interesting. It is amazing what a transformation you can achieve with a bit of chalk paint! Minnie is right. Stick with the plaid and use the same cushions on both.
