Any ideas on lighting for this kitchen?

I think we’ll go for lights inside the glass cabinets and maybe lights under the wall cabinets, but what would you suggest for the ceilings? I like the idea of retro pendants or something to add a bit more interest to the room but not sure where best to hang something like that. It’s a small peninsula at 136cm. And should I have spotlights as well? I can’t say I’ve ever noticed the details of other people’s kitchen lights so am struggling to know what to tell the builder about where to place the electrics!
This is the colours we’re going for, with some sagey greens here and there. There’s going to be French doors down the one end.

6 years agoAgree with JenP - All of the above. You may be able to place two smaller pendants over the peninsula. Really depends what you like. Some of the smaller pendants are only around 20-25cm across. So, if you went with the spacing like this :-
29cm +( 25cm pendant ) +28cm gap + ( 25cm pendant ) +29cm gap - you get two in, nicely spaced.

Comments (24)I agree made.com is a good option, both for table/chairs and for a corner sofa which is the style I'd go for - modern, good way to 'zone' space, neat and comfy. Comments (11)We also have a north east facing kitchen, we used farrow and balls, Purbeck stone on our wall of units at the back of the kitchen (its warmer than using grey which can look cold in a north facing room), pelt on our peninsula and dimity on the walls, it give off pink hues during the day and is (nice) sort of creamy beige in the evening / on dull days. We took samples of our flooring and work top to a F&B shop/consultant and they were really helpful in confirming that the colours we wanted would work in our N/E facing room. I was pretty fixed on the the purbeck stone and pelt and it was they that suggested using dimity on the walls. You’ll need those on this range as the fascia is longer than the cabinets, so looks odd without them . Comments (6)I’m with Sonia. For me the tiles date the kitchen and the worktops are probably showing their age. If you can afford to replace them it will transform the kitchen and might well cost the same as professionally refinishing the doors. And I also agree that painting cabinets is best left to professionals but you could change the wall colour to make the room feel different. If it were my room I would try to find a Quartz worktop (try to find a warm colour as very white could make the cabinets look old) and I might well have a worktop splashback instead of tiles. And then you have a neutral kitchen and can apply almost any wall colour. Choosing this is easy- you either choose a colour consistent with other colour choices in the house or you pick a colour from the rug. I like Daisy suggestion of a soft green wall colour (but only if the blue tiles have been replaced.)...See MoreHannah
