Design Dilemma Living Rooms

Lighting for a living room in Georgian town house

Large sitting room with high ceiling and two sash windows, south-facing. Need ideas for a central ceiling-hung light-fitting that isn't too old-school (i.e. not a typical chandelier) but not too "off-the-wall"!

Maybe something like the below - there's a few different ideas depending on the style of the room. You should probably decide whether you want to draw attention to the light, or whether it should just blend in and sit nicely with the rest of the room?

I love the Neo-Baroque chandelier by Abigail Ahern. Also love the Petite Friture Vertigo ceiling pendant for its simplicity.

Thanks mrsmcee74 for recommending Egyptian cotton, although I have used it before I hadnt really considered it for this room, it really looks great though - its in the part which is east facing, so your comments on that really swung it! Will post photos soon. Also, my painter was pleased as he loves Dulux trade - and something to note, it took only 2 coats of Dulux trade Egyptian Cotton, whereas the F&B lamp room gray took 3 it was so watery... I love the colours that F&B do, but the paint quality of dulux trade (not normal dulux) is much better.

You could use a motorised mechanism, similar to the ones they use in beds and hide it inside a sideboard/chest. You can get such furniture ready made, but the choice may be limited. If you really don't want gadgets then put it in a normal cabinet and have doors in front of the set, or fake books.

HUB Architects were invited by a High End developer to provide Interior Design proposals and Architectural Details for the reconfiguration of a post war town-house located near Hyde Park. The brief eventually allowed us to provide a full Architecture, Interior Design with FF&E service. The building was taken back to it's shell giving us flexibility to remodel with a spatial rhythm of broad open plan rooms and more intriguing smaller spaces. HUB devised an eclectic scheme that referenced mid-century design with some Classical details. The space planning allowed for maximum light and transparency to flow through the floors. At the same time the subdivision of space with arch ways and antechambers creates more intimate corners without closing the open plan form. The provision of bespoke joinery has given us the opportunity to articulate and integrate cooling discretely. It has also allowed us to detail playful portals including a hidden entrance to a “Narnia” bathroom. The unusually flowing stair handrail sits comfortably along side the Gio-Ponte style railings and door at the front of the original building, thus ensuring that the design intent is threaded throughout the building.

You already have good idea of furniture layout in Ashley furniture photo. Try to do the same, just switch love seat and sofa ( the same as existing layout that you had). Can you post photos then?

Thanks honeypoppet for the input. Here are some photos of the room with most of the furniture out (we're having the fireplace replaced with a similar but smaller one).
