Living room ideas needed

Hi! Looking for some ideas to help me restyle our v small (but high ceilinged) North facing living room.
Layout, sofa, dining table, spotlights and oak flooring need to stay - need new paints, curtains, cushions, side table (upcycle?), artwork, possibly lighting, log effect burner, dining chairs and a rug too.
I love the idea of something dark like F&B Inchyra Blue but concerned it’ll be too dark...

Bumping this up for you. Not sure about furniture placement as I think you’ve made the best use with the space you have. Inchyra blue is a lovely colour and I think it will suit your room. Personally I’d be tempted to paint the window wall in soft white or ivory colour with the rest in inchyra blue and keep the shelves in white but paint behind them in blue. Swap the curtains for a lighter linen or light beige colour. Add some some texture with soft furnishings (wool,faux fur, leather etc.). Larger artwork or a gallery wall. Wooden side table, similar to floor colour. Also brass accents work really well with this colour, maybe in the form of a floor lamp, large chandelier and picture frames. If you do decide to go dark then (I won’t lie) it will appear darker but with the right lighting it will feel a lot more cozier. Hope this helps. Here’s some inspo:

Hi, I also agree with @rachelmidlands comments, and have posted a couple of pics which might help.
As you’re fortunate to have high ceilings you can be brave with a darker colour on the walls so long as you get the lighting right. Brass & gold accents will also help lift the colour, and perhaps some shaggy, fluffy cushions to soften the look.
The side table can definitely be upcycled & you can get some great metallic paints if that’s the way you wish to go.

Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Pattern/interest can also be added in the form of wall art.

Hi Laura. Congratulations on the new home! Have you thought about putting the sofa on the back wall and moving the TV to where the sofa is? I think it would work nicely with the shelves. You can then add a floor lamp and picture gallery on the back wall similar to what's pictured with a tall potted plant in the other corner to make a nice focal point. I'd go for a pale grey For the walls, dulux dusted moss 2 is nice but check undertones with your sofa. Your dining chair looks more of a deep coral so would bring a little in for cushions (maybe white and coral patterned to lighten the sofa) and also some texture, a faux sheepskin is always good for a scandi look. You could then add splashes of green or blue for art etc. Some faux stems would be great on the dining table (I like cox and cox's eucalyptus in their glass bottle vase for something simple and they give height). Hard to tell from table pics but could you add an arc light to zone the dining area as you don't have any ceiling lights? Your kitchen looks great, I have to admit if it were mine though I'd be tempted to paint it a soft white and remove some of the wall units and have some shelves instead.

In some ways it’s good to have such a large TV. Let’s face it you are sitting a very long way from it in your lovely big room! You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night.

And a picture of the wall with the door in would help work out where sofa might go too... Ps room looks like it could be so cosy when done and straight away I would enjoy seeing books in some configuration beside the fire. But I love books!
