conservatory advice

We need a little more space in our mid terraced home and currently considering options. Due to the cost it is like a formal extension is out of the question. I understand in years gone by conservatories were not ideal for all year round use....has this now changed? What experience have you had with yours? Any tips on what to look out for/consider?

Certainly in years gone by, conservatories were considered to be cold in winter and boiling in the summer, but advances in glass technology have changed all this. Wintergardens are now a popular contemporary alternative to conservatories, dispensing with the need for dwarf walls and can extend easily into the side return for example with glazed roof sections and bifold doors. We built a glass lean-to a year ago. It measures 4x3m and use it as year round dining room. We have no real temperature issues. We fitted thermal roof roller blinds which also help maintain year round temperature, particularly in the summer. If it's really cold in the winter we may switch on a small heater. Have a good look around and you will find that glass technology has evolved. We are really pleased with ours and highly recommend going for a glass conservatory. Do a good research and ask for glass efficiencies. Good luck

Laminate: PROS – Laminate wood flooring is made from composite wood pressed together at high temperatures. The photograph or image of hardwood is then covered over the composite wood to form the laminate, thus is cheaper. Laminate wood installation cost is on an average 50% less than hardwood. Since laminate wood flooring is made from pressed wood it is more durable and resists scratches, moisture and wear and tear better than hardwood flooring. Laminate flooring is also easier to clean on a routine basis. CONS – Even though laminate is more durable it is not as visually appealing and lower qualities of laminate may have artificial looking wood grain textures. Laminate: CONS – Laminate flooring doesn’t repair easily. If you buy flooring that comes in individual pieces and snapped together, you may be able to replace. We had all of our windows, doors and the conservatory colour bonded, guaranteed for a lifetime! Totally amazing and sooo cheap compared to window replacement. Our conservatory was white, but the windows were darker wood like your conservatory The whole lot matches now, even the garage door !

Need advice for conservatory

I am just in the process of getting quotes for an ultraframe conservatory/extension with LivinRoof system. lean to design, pitched roof, a solid rendered wall on one side with a 1m window, 3 metres of sliding doors at the rear , 2.5m of floor to ceiling windows on the other side. total interior size is 4m wide by 2.5m deep. all windows/doors in aluminium. cost is coming out at around £26-28k!! more than I anticipated... although that does include around £1900 for building regs and structural calcs to open the full 4m of the existing rear wall and then £3900 for the work to remove wall and open space up.... so £5800 for those works... so £20-22k for the actual construction...
