Living Room ideas please

Hi looking for ideas please. We are currently having the old brick chimney breast and flue knocked out. Room size 3.7 x 3.9m. keeping corner sofa also. Apart from that we have a blank canvas to work with. thanks x

I would like ideas where TV should go? mount on a wall? or on a cabinet? thanks!

Avoid bulky furniture that would overwhelm this small space. The space planning doesn't work & is missing one of the windows - there is only one wall to place a TV on. Maybe a small sectional under the windows and a console table with TV on the wall - this would give you an open space feel too. For colors, something neutral light and I would paint the beams to match the door for added interest.

Holly, not a bad dialema and what great spaces you have to play with! There are so many options for you here. I have worked on these type of properties for over 9 years and I always provide the same advice to a client. You will need to consider how you want to use the space/the environment that you want to create in order to determine where you will place the furniture. Key elements such as how you intend to travel through the property, what is practical for you, how your family spend their time at home etc. will all dictate the interior configuration. For example, some of my clients would look to create a formal reception room at the front of the property, introducing a door from the hallway. They would then utilise the second reception room as a play/TV area, library, piano space or even insert the kitchen within this zone and create a very large open plan dining/entertainment space (large sofa/TV area) at the rear, directly connected to the garden. As you can see there are so many points to consider. Have you thought about appointing a team to assist you with the space planning/visualising how it could look?

i think the wooden coffee table box in the bay looks absolutely wonderful and am so glad you are keeping the brown leather sofa - both give off warmth, more so than too much grey. A darker grey drape will work with the carpeting but that would be as far as i would go with the grey theme. Sprinkle some reflective surfaces around, eg one of those silver floor lamp that bend into the room (sorry , forgotten the technical name!) , or on the mantel? silver framed wall art on the dark wall? to add a little brightness to the room and i feel you would achieve a warm but stylish room.... Most of all, take your time! take a pic of things you like and use the 'see in my room feature' in the houzz toolbox of tricks to help visualise.

Don't go for all grey. Youve got some lovely colours in the stained glass in the windows (green, purple, red). Use them to make a really distinctive room which respects the period of your home. It's a lovely well proportioned room and it can take some colour.

we've always had the corner sofa in front of the radiator. Not sure it would fit elsewhere in the room?

Keep the sofa under the window and move your radiator and get a new vertical designer radiator instead!

I would move the radiator so that you can have floor length curtains - they always make a room look smart and bigger and will make you window look more attractive - short curtains chop up the room visually.
