Garden shed colour

Hello,
We just built a garden shed / little house. Any suggestions what colour we should paint it? I am thinking about light grey. The window and door will be white. Path will be stone grey with charcoal grey edges. Our house is red brick.

Well, grey is a great foil for any planting to work against, along with being a colour soft on the eyes. I think that is a good choice. However colour is a very personal thing and wouldn't steer anyone away from what they liked. Especially if it is easily changed, as it would be in this case. Good luck

I love dark grey on a shed. It is a fantastic foil for plants as they really stand out against the grey. I’ll try and find a pic for you.

Hi. I'd go for the smaller shed, something decorative with windows and door that are front opening. I'd try and get one that is up to 10ft wide and 13' deep which is fairly tall (or look at made to measure) so you can run a pergola off it for a seating area to the right. I'd install fencing on the left and consider painting it all a mid to dark grey which is a great foil for greenery. Perhaps a lawn design similar to this (pic will follow) which should make the garden feel bigger and provide a path to the shed door. Where they have the shrub planted amongst the lawn I'd go for a larger evergreen shrub or tree which should disguise the view of next doors garden building. You can also have climbers on the pergola which will provide some privacy at the back. If you get the sun in that area though I would consider extending the patio and pergola in an L shape so you have decking running off the patio for seating and use the area on the existing patio for a BBQ/fire pit area etc (hope that makes sense!) I might also invest in the all weather rattan garden furniture so you don't need to take up more space in the shed.

Yes I was going to suggest as far away from the house as possible because we live in britain you dont get much sunshine so you want as much light to be able to get into your house during the darker months! put a shed in position 1 and you lose that light immediately! Id' suggest position 3 since your garden isn't huge it is defintely not too far to walk to it to fetch your bike if you do indeed keep a bike in there? If you are looking to cut costs then position 2 if you aren't going to be using the seating area in the morning. As you are south facing I would assume you would generally get a good deal of light in your garden anyway so yes if you want to save then position 2 and position 3 if you prefer to use the patio in the morning as position 3 will more then likely cast an afternoon shadow of sorts hard to tell scale of garden from photos but it looks to be not very big.

I have to say, a friend has a very similar set up because they are short of space - and theirs works really well. They still have gates / wide doors at either end, but it has allowed them to put shelves and hooks etc on the walls to help with storage. It isn’t ideal - but if it’s the only storage option that you have, it can work well. The only thing they have found is that it can become a bit of a dumping ground for things, so they are mindful about keeping it tidy.
