Any ideas for window covering on this long window along the stairs
Comments (25)Hi Am following this thread with interest - I have windows like this throughout my house and am finding it really difficult to decide on suitable treatments. On the upside it means the house always looks light and airy! We currently have a series of temporary roller blinds downstairs which work pretty well, but in the bedrooms we have curtains - although they now cover the radiators so not keen as a long term solution. Would also like to have blackout in the two main bedrooms. Does anyone know if extra wide roman blinds are available anywhere? We'd like an unfussy look. Suggestions and pics most welcome. Thanks....See MoreWould you have stairs from kitchen/diner leading up to bedrooms?
Comments (13)Hi Mr Mr, that clarifies things. It would seem that if you go ahead with stairs from the hall then you will lose the smallest bedroom upstairs, presumably currently occupied by the youngest in the family? If so, then do you intend moving them downstairs or will you take the plunge and move yourselves into a new master bedroom downstairs? What will happen to the existing landing at the top of the stair from the dining room - could it be used to replace the lost bedroom? Could it be incorporated into one of the other bedrooms? Could it become a study [if needed]? When we extended a few years ago we took the opportunity to merge two existing bedrooms to give one larger room. The new extension provided two more bedrooms and we 'lost' one other original bedroom to become a 'landing library' open to the staircase so, in effect, a large gallery. In this way we went from a conventional 4 bed to a much larger 4 bed plus library. The house is just so much more usable in its new format. You will usually find that upstairs walls are easily moved as they are non load bearing. However, I am sure most people would agree that you should make the house suit your needs. It is well worth sitting down with a pen and paper and listing what you'd really like to achieve from the building work. If you are planning on this being a long term home then I'd take this opportunity to 'future proof' the layout for you and your family. If you are looking for resale in the foreseeable future then investing the minimum amount to get your kitchen diner is probably the way forward. Either way, good luck. P.S. given a choice, I'd still keep the stairs away from the kitchen smells... but see what the consensus is from the Houzz community....See MoreLeaded or unleaded new window?
Comments (4)We had lots of leading in ours when we moved in - have recently had most replaced and the increase in the amount of light we get now is incredible considering the lead strips aren’t very thick. We do have a slight combination in that the windows which form part of the patio doors ( above them) are still leaded, as is our bathroom, but I actually don’t think it looks odd at all. personally I’d never opt for leaded now through choice. I’ll try and attach a pic…...See Morelead or no lead / black or white frames???
Comments (0)Having the front of our house re-rendered and timbers replaced. Having new door and windows replaced also. Originally we were going to replace the windows like for like with lead (in a row of 8 houses with same style). Now we’re toying with the idea of of clear glass and maybe even black frames? Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated....See MoreA B
