What is used to bond blocks?

What was used to hold blocks together? And adhesive glue? I don't see mortar and it actually looks really nice. I'm going to be building something similar soon and like the idea of not using mortar.

Hi, before you get the sledgehammer out, there’s a house tour on Stories where they extended but kept the original wall and window as a sort of huge serving hatch. It looks amazing! Just go to Stories above and it’s the first story. Worth a look!

I would go with Tamp75’s suggestion and paint the wall black. Jet wash the wall, repair any cracks or damage and then cover with masonry paint. Add some trellis panels at regular intervals along the length to create rhythm. I recently made my own from roofing lats which are cheap to buy (see photo of my effort using the plan). Leave them in natural wood and plant climbers to grow up them. You already have a lot of plants, you just need to redefine your border. You could add some plants in an acid green colour (eg Acer Jordan, Choicya Sundance etc) that will really pop against the wall. Good luck.
