Do you know what type of finish was used on the pine shiplap walls?

We are restoring a home with 100 year old pine and I want to keep the wood unpainted but still look current. I like this look. Was a stain or finish of any kind used?

It was left natural . Lightly sanded but it was original to the house.

HI MARINA, I love your bedroom- great high ceilings. Your furniture is also nice. I would follow the lead from the furniture keeping all furniture white. I love tropical coastal style. I would put up a white ceiling fan and ikea sell some white nets that let in loads of light and give privacy. I would decorate the walls in an off white with a hint of pink in it for warmth and to bring out the tones in your beautiful floor. I would collect local art for the walls. I would go to town on the bedding and cushions for the bed. I would mix your favourite colours- turquoise, teal, with green and coral. Making the room have a tropical coastal beach hotel vibe. I would feel like I was on holiday every day and never want to leave. Once you've surrounded yourself with personal things like photo frames of loved ones, plants/ flowers etc, you will feel right at home and settled. I've loved decorating for years, and tried lots of colours on walls but recently I've returned to off whites as they are so flexible and you can change the look with coloured accessories regular. Also anything by Barclay Butera - he's the best for coastal/beach styles. Wishing you lots of fun.

Oh dear, I hope your company didn't lay them... The problems are legion, but the most striking mistake is in the layout. The tiles do not follow the line of the stairs, nor are they symmetrical. This will ALWAYS make the hall look lopsided. When you add in the colour scheme and lack of other period features, the owners have a problem. Are these encaustic tiles? The colour is far from traditional for a hallway and as others have said- more suited for a bathroom/utility room. If they are encaustic, why not move them to the garden and make a Mediterranean courtyard? The hall can then be inviting rather than blinding.

Whilst I recognise there's a few tradespeople on here bemoaning fussy clients I have to say my biggest regrets when renovating my house was not being specific enough with trades! We had an electrician put in an extra light switch in the hall to control both the downstairs and upstairs lighting. He put it in a good 10-15cm lower than the other switch further along the same wall which looked completely ridiculous. Made him move it in line with the other one much to his annoyance. Another similar incident was with a vertical column rad for the kitchen - whilst I was specific enough this time to ask it be centered to the wall it was on, he installed it much higher than needed with about 30cm of pipe sticking out the bottom! It would have looked much better in line with the doorframe adjacent. Had to learn to live with that one. We had engineered wood floors put in upstairs - the fitter used the shortest wall in the smallest room to take a plumbline from. When it came into the hall it was obviously on a complete wonk. By this point I'd gotten a bit better at speaking up and ensuring we actually got what was needed (and paid for!). He had to take it up and re-lay using the hall as the plumbline. Looked so much better but he was extremely annoyed! After all this I learned to use masking tape to direct exactly where pipes/light switches/trim should be fitted so there was no room for 'interpretation'. I also forced myself to speak up more and advocate for what I really wanted. That said I'm a designer by trade so I generally know what I want and how to make it look good but was definitely a bit too shy to contradict trades in the beginning!

What type of wall panelling shall I do?

Thx for the replies. Read some of the responses and decided not to put any panels and this is the outcome. Considering there is no sort of panelling I'll have to decorate it another way. Any suggestions? Even got my bit of Quartz cut and buffed to size. Waiting for tap to arrive in post and I'll get the basin fitted too. @j;aCualey - that's an interesting idea. Any examples?
