Short glass wall/extension

Hi,

We don’t have room to extend but are looking to take the back wall of our kitchen diner out and replace with aluminium sliding doors.

I keep seeing these narrow glass extensions but can’t find details of cost - does anyone have any idea what we’d be looking at for a 4 metre wide glass wall like these photos? Any info on what probs might be involved also welcome.

Internal difficult to get on my phone sorry. The wall at the end of the bannister rail is coming out and the landing will return . The right hand window on the exterior vie is in that toilet. The house was divided in two with a garage conversion and we are putting it back to one house. TIA

Sliders all the way. My sister has had them installed in her kitchen - 3 panes filling the whole of the back of the house and it looks amazing. She has gone for a very modern country look so clean lines, shaker doors, very light and airy. Here’s a view with one door slid open, please excuse the garden as that’s next on the list once lockdown over!

Hi Olly, Answering your Q on my old thread. We have the same hang over as Alex although it wasn't as deep as we originally wanted it. Yes it goes get hot in summer but then we open the doors out. It's also warm in winter when there's any sun at all so so far in this open plan room, I've only had the wood burner on at night and no heating. We decided that if it's the same this year then we will just put some roller blinds over each section (or say over every two sets) which we can pull down when we want and it's cheaper than permanent heat control.

I think it will be more important for building regs for your glass room to be thermally efficient- in which case you need a company who specialise in this and can demonstrate it’s u value. Separately- if the extension looks on one side to a fence why spend the money on all glass. Given a glass extension costs twice the money to build than a brick built extension with lots of glazing why not build at least some brick?

Sliding doors will give you a slimmer design than the bifold options show in the image (only one of them worked for me!)

It would give you a design similar to the below (but on a smaller scale with a shallower glass roof above the doors)
