where to hang pictures?

Hi everyone,

I have a funny shaped spare room (see pictures) so the bed and dresser aren’t able to be completely central across the walls they’re on. I want to hang 3 pictures on the wall with the bed on, and 2 pictures on the wall with the dresser on.
My question is, do I hang them in the centre of the actual wall or in the centre of the furniture?

For the bed you could do either although I prefer the art just over the bed if the room’s multi functional. How big is the art for the changing station as a shelf/shelves look quite cute?

Thank you for your reply. I agree re the shelf, but we will be replacing the dresser with a cot in about 6 months so didn’t want shelves above the cot, will put them somewhere else. The room is a work in progress and will need to adapt as we go!
We are looking at two a3 frames above the dresser for now

Great idea. Not naff at all, just a bit of a dust catcher! I love picture rails, saves my husband lots of drilling ;-) They're not difficult to find, any decent timber merchant should have them. I've also seen them in one of the big DIY sheds. You can also still buy picture rail hooks very cheaply in places like Wilko. Good luck!

Good morning Laura, I would have to agree that it might look a bit lost on that big wall. You would almost need two of these paired like the ones you have now. Do you perhaps have the option to purchase a slightly different one but in the same style from the artist? If not I would personally look at other places in your home to hang it, maybe the bedroom was a good choice after all ;-) Anthony.

I have lots of original artwork around my house (one benefit of living next door to an artist!). Some I've bought from craft fairs/antique shops, some from local auctions, I've found some in job lots and I have bought a lot of pencil or pastel drawings off Ebay - as well as those pictures I've bought from my neighbour. I've mostly bought the frames from Ikea or Ebay. They're not expensive or valuable, but it does mean that they're unique. But more importantly , I bought each and every one because I feel a connection to them. I only have one large mass produced print/poster in the house, it's on my bedroom wall and I can't count the hours I laid in bed studying it and puzzling & wondering about it - it's a huge framed print of 'In thoughts of you' by Jack Vettriano. I also have beautiful, framed, printed and embroidered silk squares going up the stairs. So I would say, cast your net wide to find pictures that you really feel something about or absolutely love, not just something that matches the decor or what a million other people have on the wall. This is one of the original drawings I recently bought on EBay:-

I use command sticky tapes and hooks for this purpose for my girls. Works well and doesn’t damage the paint. It works better on non Matt paint though. Hope this helps :)
