ceiling fan dilemma!

We are interested in adding some recessed lights and a ceiling fan (no light) to our living room area. It is roughly 300 sq ft, but opens to dining area. The ceilings are 9ft high. We really liked a Fanimation fan but it is 56 inches and we are worried that is too big. Any advice on size and color? Not a huge fan of white but it would blend in...would black be too dominating in the space??

I think that size is fine. I would go with one with a light, it’s nice to have if you need it and looks nicer IMO. A bronze with dark blades would look good!

The first thing you see in a room that has a ceiling fan, is the ceiling fan. So it is important that it be the right size and color. White with white 9ft ceilings would be a good choice. Without a light, it will be even more unobtrusive. I think you should stay within 48-50 inches in diameter. The room looks like it is about 12'-13' wide.

I did think about doing the whole room dark, however we're potentially looking to move in a couple of years time, and worry the whole room being dark would put people off... especially as it's the smallest bedroom so more of a nursery for most people! Where as with so much white around as well I thought it still keeps it more appealing to a wider ranger of people? Like in the pic below! If it was my forever house I'd def consider the whole room dark! Where are those dark shelves from? They're gorgeous! Also have been looking at that brass side table from made! Lighting wise I'm thinking of lamps, but more general/uplighter rather than spotlights and have the lamp below to go in as well, although that's more coppery than brass!

Perhaps move the island to the left, so the distance between island and tall units on the left side is about 100 cm and then put something like this over it? You could possibly do that too without moving the island:

Lovely lamp shade! Where did you find it? I have a similar dilemma when looking for light fittings. We have a Thirties house, and trying to find something in keeping but not OTT is difficult. We have high ceilings too, and I do dislike looking at bare lightbulbs from below. Husband also makes a fuss as he says all modern shades and bulbs aren't bright enough! Ambient light means nothing to him
