how do I make my kitchen cabinets look grey instead of blue?
Comments (8)Hi Patricia, I come across this problem a lot, I match the colour samples in the studio and they work perfectly. When we take them to site the lighting in the room totally changes the look of the colour pallets we chose. Lesson one for us, "always" put the colour samples in the room before agreeing them with the client. Lighting is the single most important factor with pastel colours. If its a north facing room colours will always look dull. Due to the position of the window the units under the window will always be in shadow which neutralises the blue tones and brings out the grey. Two ways of approaching this. 1 Re paint with a stronger blue to offset the neutralising effects of the lighting. 2 Change the lighting. Put an extension into the room and get a few different lights, LED warm white, Soft white, brilliant while etc. Look at the effects in the day and in the evening. When you find the light source that brings out the blue tones use that on all the lights in the room... With regards to colour on the walls, at the risk of being boring I always go white. When you put white up against a pastel colour the pastel shades really pop out. When you put another colour in it alters / distracts from the pastel. Hope that helps, Martin: www.angel-martin.com...See MorePaint wall colour to go with gloss grey units
Comments (5)Hi, Kitchen looks awesome. I like to go for f&b cornforth white, really is a subtle colour which allows the kitchen to really stand out. But it’s enough of a colour to add some interest and not just white. The blues looks nice but personally I find them all quite cold looking....See MoreIdeas for kitchen/Diner after inspiration has gone!
Comments (7)Yes I feel it definitely needs a warm colour and pink is a good idea, I do like very pale colours which is why I have stuck to grey and white on the walls but maybe a warm colour is needed. You have highlighted the alcoves that also drive me mad, they are different sizes which doesnt help! I recently bought the bureau which I like but the console table is an expensive piece of furniture we bought years ago which I have tried to use all over the house and it really doesn't go anywhere else but I do think you are right! We were very naive when we moved into our house and assumed our existing furniture would fit in well but have bought virtually all new furniture that we didn't budget for - so that's a lesson for the future!...See MoreFinding The Right White-Grey Paint.
Comments (5)I suggest a look at Little Greene ”Greyscales” range and also Paint and Paper Library. All these colours come in multiple “depths” from very light to quite dark - the dark end of the range helps you see what tones are in the light end of the range, if that makes sense. For example I have Little Greene’s French Grey which comes in Light, Mid, standard and I think in Deep too. This comes up a bit bluey in my house but seems to be greener/browner in others. Unfortunately there is no subsitute for trying them in your own house....See MoreJohaudrey
