Will this wallpaper be too much?
Comments (80)Here in Oregon, we refer to a den as more of a manly, comfy room. Part office, part tv room. The family room is like a living room but with a tv. A living room is generally more formal and used for casual conversation. For a house that doesn't have a family and living room both, the words are interchangeable though, which can get confusing for people used to more formal living. We are fairly informal around here. I would assume drywall is like plasterboard. When houses are built, the framing goes in, filled with insulation on exterior walls, then all of the studs get covered with big sheets of drywall that then gets all the seems "taped" and smoothed and then texture is sprayed over it all, then paint. Drywall isn't used in all rooms, there is a special kind called green board used in bathrooms, which is mold resistant. Cement board is also used on any walls or floors where tile is being applied, like bathrooms or kitchens, which is also mold resistant. I am loving this subject! It's so fun to see what people all over the world call different things....See MoreToo much wood everywhere
Comments (26)Sorry to jump in here, (hope its ok guys!) I just genuinely thought that you could just change the whole feel of that room by just removing the timber blinds and replacing them with something lighter. The big heavy square of timber so high up the wall creates a really heavy room and acts like a focal point. Window furnishings can be expensive, but they don't have to be! Just imagine the room with something much lighter and or softer in that direction and I think the rest of the room will feel much easier to deal with. I love the fire place and think the floor is quite warm. You could paint just the chairs to match the lighter colour of the new blinds (just an idea to save on cost). Hope that isn't confusing in amongst the other comments! Good luck!...See MorePlease save my bathroom! Too much going on:-(
Comments (17)Hi Stefka, The bathroom is coming along nicely. Is the bath panel a match to the sink base? What material is the floor, vinyl or wood? If it's wood and you're not happy with the colour, have you considered either bleaching it, then colour washing it to a similar colour to the tiles around the bath or staining it darker? (Going darker will make the bathroom seem smaller.) To keep the textures and colours as simple as possible, paint the plaster walls a colour that is 2-3 shades lighter than the square wall tiles. A different colour will chop the room up more. A big mirror over the sink ledge, wall to wall, will make a huge difference to the feel of the room. It will reflect light all around and visually double the space. Colour can be added through towels and accessories like special bottles for oils and lotions. Your tiles look to be a pinky beige so look at neutrals or pale turquoise. Dunelm Mill has a good selection http://www.dunelm.com/product/so-soft-zero-twist-towels-1000016871 or http://www.dunelm.com/product/egyptian-cotton-bathroom-collection-b01010 If you are overlooked and want privacy throughout the day and night, why not consider waterproof plantation shutters. They will give you light if you angle the louvres and total privacy at night. http://www.purelyshutters.co.uk/window-shutters/plantation-shutters/waterproof Because your window is in the shower area, fabric will rot and mildew very easily. Plastic shutters can be wiped down with ammonia and water in the course of cleaning the bathroom and allow access to the window for cleaning and ventilation....See MoreIs a rug going to be too much?
Comments (6)Hi Sian, If the rug is fairly neutral and compliments the rest of the soft furnishings, it can work really well to put a rug on to a carpet. Perhaps, a thin rug in a solid neutral colour like this [one[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/products/linie-asko-rug-off-white-170x240-cm-prvw-vr~112200967). I've also seen some really nice examples of bright colored rugs looking great on carpet, I have attached an example [here[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/penthouse-duplex-west-chelsea-nyc-contemporary-home-office-new-york-phvw-vp~60785744). I think it depends a lot on taste, but it's definitely important to get something waring if it's going to protect the carpet underneath from wear and tear. Hope this is helpful.
