Double Story Extension - any one else starting a project soon?
Comments (74)Wow that looks beautiful, I am jealous of the brick. We wanted a very similar colour brick but the council wouldn’t allow and I didn’t want the red brick so we went with blocks and hopefully crisp render. We started our build towards end of Jan. Double extension, the foundations laid and then had the structural engineer out and final final details drawn up. The ground floor blocks have been laid and the scaffold has gone up so don’t know how long that will take. Our builders seem on track and have said August finish but I think it will be September/October Tani how many bedrooms did you have built and how many rooms downstairs? Also from start date to now what has the time scale been? Xx...See Morewould you mix and match built in oven brands?
Comments (16)Thanks all. Indeed when I posed my initial question I hadn't really been thinking about appearance, it was more to see if anyone else had done it and to check that there weren't any incompatibility issues eg with installation, different controls, or perhaps other things I might not have considered. It's been great to hear people's constructive input and experiences of having done exactly this! It's an iterative process and great food for thought (pardon the pun). Many thanks....See Morestacking single ovens?
Comments (8)Easy enough to do, i work mainly with Neff appliances and as @Mark Andrews says, different ovens may need different dimensions so you need to work from the installation spec of the ovens. But if it was neff ovens they need a 585 void so i'd have a built under 115mm facia at the bottom [at 120mm] then the 585 void so the top of this oven is inline with the base unit doors, then the next 18mm panel, void of 585mm then top panel of 18mm making overall height of 1326 plus 150 plinth makes the height 1476, [120+585+18+585+18=1326mm] which diy kitchens don't do. At these heights the top oven is at worktop height which is an ideal position and the bottom oven is at the same height as it would be as a built under oven. If you don't want the buoh facia at the bottom just change the 120 to 18 [thickness of shelf] and the height is 1224 plus plinth. Personnally i'd consider a compact top oven at 460 tall and look at the Neff range as they have a joining strip for this purpose https://www.neff-home.com/uk/service/seamless-combination-of-appliances...See MoreAre double ovens becoming a thing of the past?
Comments (9)I don’t think you can get a double oven that matches a built in microwave. So it sounds like they were trying to help elevate the look- it’s a pity they didn’t dissuade you from the ugly fridge. I agree with Daisy that I wouldn’t want a microwave in a cupboard but if it doesn’t match your main oven then just don’t built it in right next to it….. put it in the peninsula instead. Lots of gas hobs have at least 4.5cm of appliance under the top glass - when people were having 40mm thick worktops this could be hidden in the worktop but if you have selected a thin worktop the hob will intrude into the drawer below. This means a 13/14cm high drawer may be squeezed for space and cutlery not fit. The solution is to put a cutlery tray in the bigger pullout they have drawn on the visual....See Morehoneypoppet
