someone please help I'm lost on what to do with this room

One big problem I am facing and one I'm desperate to tackle but I just can't see past it is how to layout my living room and design ideas..
I actually can't stand to be in there and avoid it at all costs, I've debated having the TV on the wall but then I think it would be to close with the sofas also storage of my daughter's dvds etc is worrying me.i hate the fact I have that cupboard and I just don't know what to do with it, it was a water boiler inside which takes up the left side and the right side has shelving inside..eventually I will have the tank removed but that would be in the future.
I love the shabby chic look, pastels, florals and also bold colours I just can't express my personality through decoration.. can anyone please give any advice on what I can do with this room please as I'm just lost with what to do with it.. I'll attach some photos now

Comments (12)The colors you have work together well: white, grey and maroon. They need to be balanced around the room. A patterned rug, white coffee table accent pieces, and shades instead of curtains for a smoother line. I'd place the mirror on the narrow wall with the clock above it (reverse exclamation point) to add quirk and interest. Lighting seems to be an issue: add floor lamp at one end of sofa and an end table at the other end crate, stump, something unique but functional). Comments (660)So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) Comments (4)thank you...i was also thinking the same thing...but a white gate gets dirty very easily..so i was thinking maybe a very light shade of brown for the pillar, a darker shade of brown for the rails and gate...and white for just the window corners. what do you think?...See MoreWardrobe door ideas - please help I’m stuck
Comments (12)Yes I did look at these as would have gone for something like that for sure if I could only find a contemporary version that wasn’t frosted glass - if anyone has seen any please do shout! emily, a carpenter friend of ours suggested Louvre doors - it maybe an option. I think I’m so hung up on the nice grey glossy sliding wardrobe doors I wanted that anything else isn’t matching up! 5 years agothank you all for your advice I'm definitely buying some paint today, i was debating whether to get rid of the sofas maybe get a small corner near middle of room and create a study type in the alcove near the window or something to make the room more multipurpose I do have a separate room eventually I would knock through so it's all open plan but right now having two separate living spaces is ideal, I'm currently in the process of painting old units and setting up this room, I was just curious what do you think I should do, I don't have dining space so I was thinking maybe corner bench seating area? or maybe just use this as a snug room and keep sofa, I'll attach some photos excuse the mess thanks

5 years agoHi. What do you like about the room and want to keep? What kind of budget do you have for changes? I would try and get the tv in the left alcove. For me the biggest change would be to change the tv unit and mirror. What size is the tv (40 inch?) and how wide is the alcove for looking for a tv stand? I agree with painting the door and pipes in the wall colour. I might look at something like dulux natural hessian (I tried doing it in the dulux app but it didn't work very well!!
