From this angle, looks like artificial turf. Where did is the picture from? I can certainly tell you if it's ours or not -

it depends a lot on the light levels as well, a shady darkish site would better suit artificial grass but if there is enough light for real grass then it would be real grass for me. this is not only because it looks much nicer, feels nicer but also because it helps to support the local wildlife ie attracting birds into the garden and insects and is also better for the environment. it is also untrue that artificial grass requires no maintenance, ideally it should be lightly brushed/blown once per month ( more in the autumn and spring months if surrounded by trees and also needs spraying with herbicide ever few months to keep the weeds from taking hold if maintenance is an issue for real grass, have a think about adding some wildflower turf to the area, looks stunning for the summer and needs cutting just once per year

I laid my own last year. Like others, I also put sub-base down first (on top of levelled ground), compacted it (hired a machine), ensured it was level, laid sand over the top, then a good weed-proof membrane on top of that. I used one large section (to save gluing), tagged edges into the ground (around perimeter of the grass), then 'dressed' it with sharp/fine sand (many neglect this but it helps prevent flattening of the grass) -- do this when dry of course. The kids love it and, they don't get muddy! The only maintenance I've had to do so far is sweep leaves up. The garden's just about getting there (had to show pics as quite proud of the transformation!). Addition of sub-base (MOT type 1) below: Levelled, compacted, then sand laid level (and, again, compacted) on top of MOT1: Once that was done, laid weed-proof membrane on top: Grass went on top of the membrane (retained around the perimeter). 'Dressed' the grass with sharp/fine sand after that (when dry!). (Will finish adding plants when spring's properly here!)

I have used Amtico Spacia oak next to laminated oak flooring and it isn’t really good enough - wish the whole thing were the Amtico as it is so practical and looks very nice in itself and will rep;ace the laminate when it’s got too tatty to bear any more! Perhaps real wood stairs would be better against the Amtico if each material is a very different colour - e.g. dark oak and pale ash or real oak stairs and Amtico as a bleached or limed oak

Hi Sven. They look nice in glossy photos but they always seem to be taken when the lawn has just been laid:-). In reality I personally think grass between paving is a pain! I have inherited some round stepping stones leading to the old shed and whilst I can run the mower over them keeping the edges neat can take ages. Unless you’re very fastidious with a lawn edge trimmer I wouldn’t bother. There are alternatives tho, plants that don’t need mowing such as Irish moss, chamomile, thyme, sedum etc. a few can deal with heavy foot traffic as well. Check out this blog: https://www.thegardenglove.com/stepables-perfect-plants-for-paths-and-walkways/ Perhaps a mix of both gravel and plants would look nice and also create a little scent.
