...Something VERY exciting on my drawing board at the moment; a new courtyard duplex with a total of 5 courtyards; bringing light and air into central spaces; also exciting will be internal ponds and water gardens: celebrating the collection and storage/ movement of water. off form concrete; silence, and calmness will dwell here. So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!

Hi, I think remove the fish tank in the corner and put a tall decorative lighting structure there instead and different objects on the mantel piece, i.e., a tall leaning mirror, or a round mirror to balance? Also, off set the display as it is too uniform, i.e., one bit in the middle, one either side, one either side of them its all a bit too "centralised". Group individual items more to one end to help balance better! Hope you understand that sentence! Also (sorry) the height of the light next to the tv doesn't work for me either, it needs to be taller or much shorter than the tv, also, changing them around, i.e. lamp next to curtains, may work better too? I love the lamp, just not there!x Or, a cheaper option, choose a branch from out walking, a fairly substantial piece that you could put behind the fish tank and branch out over the fire place, paint it white, fix to wall and decorate with small fairy lights. Doing away with the candles in the centre and then display the deer to the left of the mantle as you look at it? All merely suggestions!x

My paint card arrived this morning (I hope all yours did too!) and although I'm a little bit in love with Sulking Room Pink and De Nimes, I'm fairly underwhelmed overall. I much preferred the Olive (archived now) to this new Bancha, which I think is too "green" (that said i'm not a green colour person, so that may be clouding my judgement), but I could warm to Treron. The neutrals are so samey - Jitney being a direct replacement for Archive (which I see has quietly been retired along with Smoked Trout if I'm not mistaken). And I'm totally unimpressed by yet another shade of white. I cannot imagine ever giving Rangwali house room. I think it's quite unsophisticated and garish, and could be quite cold looking. The two darker colours aren't my thing at all, but I could see the red one being popular in the right setting. I was also interested to note that they colour chart cover has had a slight make-over, moving from the ubiquitous grey, to grey and a browner colour. With the Dulux colour of 2019 being a warm brown colour, I am wondering if grey is now on it's way out? I did have a feeling it was on the wane. If that is the case, I suspect there'll be a lot of anthracite grey windows being painted in the foreseeable future and a lot of owners of dove grey and plummet kitchens asking how to repaint kitchen doors.
