Comments (9)Definitely paint the whole wall aubergine but not including the fireplace. That will create a nice contrast. If you decide on wallpaper only go for plain/textured rather than pattern. Regarding the window treatment, I'd use curtain panels on either side for decorative purposes only to tie the whole look together and use venetian blinds on windows. I wrote a blog about blinds. You can read it on http://karolinabarnes.co.uk/blog/designer-tips-on-blinds/. If you like pattern include it through cushions, rug and decorative accessories such as vase, plant pots etc. Use tall table lamps or floor lamps on either side of the sofa to balance the window area height and use neutral tones on the shade (if patterned ) or rather completely plain. Think about the colour balance. Too much of one colour is too overpowering. Use the 60%-30-30%-10% rule when using pattern and colour. I have lots of free advice on my blog but please contact me if you need more help. I'm happy to help. Karolina...See Moreselecting curtain fabric to match a nice tweed & leather sofa
Comments (28)something like this would work I think, it is a very soft colour...think dark reds will be too dark...or maybe a soft grey tartan or check , a duck egg colour would also be lovely and really lighten up the space without taking away the cost feel...hope this link works! http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cdn0.notonthehighstreet.com/system/product_images/images/001/189/535/original_plaid-wool-handmade-lampshade.jpg%253F1372866004&imgrefurl=http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/weftbespokedesign/product/plaid-wool-handmade-lampshade&h=900&w=900&tbnid=2t2-3YNnS_CtlM:&zoom=1&docid=Ucd_ov0Bw9kRvM&ei=Ku_UVNmFEMHmUsKyg6AF&tbm=isch&client=safari&ved=0CF4QMyhWMFY4yAE...See MoreAdvice on curtains and furniture for reception
Comments (3)Love the dark grey and the floor. The windows need painting, get rid of the nets and tone those in using a very light grey ( couldn't get your pic light enough - but you get the idea ), and the a matching gunmetal grey for the curtains, to match your wall. The fireplace is the big thing dating the room. So, i'd focus on amending or changing that too....See Moreadvice on Victorian fireplace refresh!
Comments (4)We installed a very similar fireplace with authentic tiles in cream, dark green and dark amber and sourced curtains and wallpaper to match as a starting point and colour scheme …. but really the colour of the tiles are quite insignificant unless you make them so as we did .… the other elements in the room and the black of the fire can dominant…its up to you....See MoreEmily Quarmby
