colour advice please house exterior

hello, modern highland property that needs a tidy up and has not been painted for a while. I was thinking of painting the woodwork duly highland green, or any dark green then the walls cream. any ideas? will I need to change the glittering as that is currently faded brown plastic!

Hi,

I'd paint the render cream, the woodwork white and the front door a deep warm red. New steps and a nice front garden will make it a lovely, bright, friendly looking cottage.

White render with black wood work, dress up with lots of plants. A house near us had unpainted render and brown paintwork..its been painted white with black woodwork, looks fantastic with lots of plants around it.
We painted our house render with sandtex Xtreme xposure paint 6 years ago, it still looks like new despite being in an exposed position on a Scottish island. Would recommend this!

Thank you both. Unfortunately the door is uPVC so can't be painted ... Yes I can see that the path should be wider too - any suggestion for colour? Light grey or beige (don't like that word!)? Can anyone offer ideas for the garden - some kind of boundary and also planting?

We love what Carolina has done with your house and we like the glazing bars as it adds a bit of interest and is a nod to the era the house was built in. The only thing we would change is to make the wing lights either side of the door full side lights. your current door brings in a lot of light and with a solid oak door you will lose quite a lot of light in your hallway but the full length sidelights will help. good luck with your project and please post some after shots so we can all see the change.

Hi Ciara I love the idea of full height doors for the garage conversion but would consider the practicality of it, think about where the desk will go. It will not add to pavement appeal if the desk is against the glass and you can see the messy bits that tend to gather under a desk. Crittal style steel windows are exorbitantly expensive, but I agree with Jonathan the house lends itself to multi paned windows. You might want to look at good quality PVC options. I would suggest the roof gets a jet wash as the green moss should come off and reveal the colour of the roof.

I would suggest as others have, a bigger porch, will allow you more storage as well,particularly when it's wet outside. Also, perhaps render or paint the extension and porch to tie them together, but to do the whole thing might be too blocky and monolithic. Do the windows work for you from the inside? You might find that if, for example, you do the porch and extension in white, the windows aren't so obvious. If they don't work for you, look at making them larger and more symmetrical. They seem quite small for the house.

that is great advice, many thanks! I like both ideas. I am quite tempted by the black trim I would not gave thought of that!!
