Glass shower screen next to vanity- what kind of join do you have?

In our new bathroom, I'm planning a vanity unit with back to wall toilet and sink to be separated from the shower with a glass shower screen. However, I'm wondering whether just standing the glass next to the vanity unit will make it a dust trap, or if it should be sealed in some way to avoid this?

if you have an arrangement like this, what was your solution? Do you have a photo you could share?

In many respects, a false wall might have been better to separate the two but we don't really have the space and have bought the shower screen now.

The easiest solution if you have the space available is to leave a gap of about 25mm / 1 inch or more between the glass and the side of the vanity unit so that you can clean in the gap.

If you seal around the edge of the vanity unit moisture may still build up and create staining, or the silicon seal may leak and water could drip down.

If you have more space you could have a bigger gap about 30cm/ 1 foot and fit a slim towel rail to the side of the vanity unit so you have somewhere to keep a hand towel.

I like the idea of the hanging rail. I'm not sure I would have enough space but I have an idea that might work. Thanks for planting a seed!

We have an independent bathroom company near to where we live. We spent hours looking on line at different products until we were so confused with it all. We picked a Darryl shower cabinet in the end, priced up on line and then visited the local showroom to see if they would price match - they matched the price on line and gave us a really great deal. We have a rain shower and it is fab, it's not electric, just runs off the hot and cold pipes. We got our bath from the Cast Iron bath company when they had a sale on. It's worth gathering together all the items you would like to purchase and then just asking for the cheapest price from everyone, as you can see, we got a good price but still gave the business to our local showroom. A glass wall that doesn't move is going to be a nightmare. It gives no flexibility for cleaning - you'll have to get into the bath to clean that shelf, the taps and the bath as well as the inside of the glass. Perhaps this glass door swings and it's just a clever photo? As for the taps, they really do need to be on a different wall so you can turn them on before getting under the shower - having them on a side wall is better than having them on the back wall. I reckon you'd bump into them all the time, turning them on or off accidentally, if they were on the back wall. When I installed my shower room, I decided against glass and built a wall instead, tiled on the inside and painted on the outside. If you get the lighting right, it doesn't matter that it's a wall that doesn't let light in; you don't need daylight to wash, you just need light! And the tiles are much more forgiving in terms of cleaning than glass is. I realise this might not work for you if you are having an over the bath shower though, if you have room for a shower room and a bathroom you might not need one over the bath?

Hi, so we went for a 1600x800 tray with a glass panel 900 wide. That leaves an opening 700 and it looks great. I think a smaller opening, even with the bath positioned as it is, would feel too small. However we do get lots of splash on the floor. It's ok but a less soggy mat would be better. I'm good at being awear of this. My wife however thinks we have a wet room. I think a 1100 screen would pretty much stop all splash (but would need a longer tray as the 700 opening would look a bit small) and also a wider tray would obviously help slightly as the shower rose would be a fraction further from the opening. I'll add a photo, but excuse the mess! I still need to install the tiled bath and shower base panels

I wouldn’t be too concerned about leaving the toilet where it is. Saves money, keeps it away from the wettest part of the room & it’s a bit of a show-stopper in its own right. Hu’s suggestion is good - risk it without the screen first - if it gets too wet then add the screen afterwards. Good advice on a wet room above from Ken too. You’ll have to come back & show us the final photos Jason.
