Engineered wood flooring - branded or not?

Is it worth paying extra for a branded floor rather than an unknown? I know there are different depths of floor, depth of wood surface etc,but even with a comparable depth is it still worth buying branded?

Whole house to do, so cost savings would be significant (unbranded) but risk of inferior quality, large area for quality and time taken to fit is also a consideration.

Any advice please, currently looking at an unbranded and Kahrs.

I’ve had both and would definitely go for Kahrs if budget allows. The planks tend to be longer lengths, higher graded wood with less knots and the kahrs system slots together really nicely. Overall a much nicer finish but then you pay for what you get!

Hi I'm in the process of buying a property which has wood effect tiles too in the kitchen and hall. I have opted to have Karndean flooring in my lounge which also opens up to the garden so I didn't want carpet. They come in many styles so maybe have a look at these? I have chosen one around £25per sq m which is the cheapest range. They are basically VInyl planks that get glued to your floor. Easy to clean and you don't have to worry about water warping the planks. Hope his helps

Thank you Daisy. The brands I am looking at are more around £45 to £50 per sqm which comes in cheaper than Naturally Oak - trying to work out why they are cheaper when spec is similar.

Hi Louisa,

It depends on what you consider branded (or not).

If branded is something like Kahrs or Haro or one of the several other suppliers of engineered wood flooring then their quality is good but all those floor are industry made products. Good inexpensive but a bit plain.

On the other hand, non branded floors supplied by people like http://www.element7.co.uk/ are made by some of the best manufacturers in Europe, often made by hand and do look so much better than the branded floors.

Then there are hundreds of other products in between but I wouldn't be afraid to use unbranded products especially if you want something a bit more personal.
